Only one slight problem.
Tala is a super talented young musician who is on her way to her friend's house. She has to go down Beat Street which is where we find musical magic. Readers are encouraged to tap out a couple of different rhythms, and these give Tala super strength or the ability to fly. I didn't really see what the rhythm had to do with super strength or flying, but, hey, it's a story so let's just go with it. By the time Tala arrives at her friend's house Tala has needed our help with both rhythms so she can help others.Because I began taking lessons and studying music more than 60 years ago I never noticed a problem with the story. However, I agree with the reviewer who needed help reading the notes. Unless you KNOW the difference between a quarter note and an eighth note, you aren't going to understand how to tap out the rhythm. The book should have shown the two notes and explained that one (picture of the eighth note) was twice as fast as the other (picture of the quarter note). Then the reader would have been able to tap out the rhythm to help Tala. Took off a star since those unfamiliar with reading music don't understand the way to tap out the rhythm.

Perfect for 1st Grade Music Class
I love how the book is interactive with the reader. The readers can help the main character get superpowers by reading rhythms. It is a lovely little story with a female protagonist.

First grade eats this up!
My first grade students LOVE this story. It’s a fun little activity that reinforces quarter and eighth notes. I show it on my classroom tv, from the kindle app from my phone, which is possibly more fun than reading a physical copy.

Great for music teachers and storytimes!
I love that it features a young POC girl as a superhero! Many young POC girls do not get to see themselves represented this way in media. It uses simple rhythms and gives multiple counting systems in the back of the book (great for new teachers or non-musicians who may not have a preferred counting method). I like the way it has pages that can be flipped to if students clap incorrectly so they have to really focus on which rhythm they are supposed to clap. I have not tried it with my students yet but I can't wait to try it with my 1st and 2nd graders once school starts! I think they will love it, especially my young girls!

Love the Rhythms
I am an elementary music teacher and was looking for books for my room and found this one! When the package arrived my 2 ten year old granddaughters were here and opened it. They loved that they had rhythms in the book to count! I bought This book for my younger students, but my 10 year old girls LOVE it too! This was a great buy!

Engaging
Want a delightful way to engage your young musicians in rhythm reading? This book will draw them in as they help Tala, the main character, exercise her superhero abilities. Not only is the story line engaging, but the beautiful illustrations will draw your students in as well. I just ordered this book, but can hardly wait to use it in my elementary music classroom. Vicky, thank you for sharing your creativity with us so we can inspire great minds for the future!

Love, Love, Love it!
I love how Vicky Weber places the rhythms for students to read throughout her book, Rhythm Rescue! Kids will be motivated to read and practice rhythms as they want to see what comes next in the storyline. I have used one other book (Lazlo Learns Recorder) that she has authored and it was fantastic! The illustrations are inclusive of all skin colors and they make a wonderful resource for a music teacher. Great purchase!!

A Sweet Introduction To Everything With A Rhythm
As a former drummer and an editor of rhyme and meter, I can’t put into words how much I love this book. It teaches children in a very engaging, playful manner what rhythm is. They are even encouraged to try out a few in order to help the main character through her adventurous journey. That’s so very clever! Overall, the story line is very engaging, the rhymes flow beautifully, the interactive elements of the story work well, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Thus, I can highly recommend this book.

Cool idea to get kids interested in music.
Another lovely musical picture book by this author. This time kids can learn to clap out a simple musical beat while helping the young star of the story to gain her musical super abilities in order to tackle problems on her way to her friend’s house. Cool idea to get kids interested in music. The text is accompanied by vibrant illustrations that will help keep the attention of young readers.

It's a lovely story in which children can explore the rhythm. By clapping they also help the main character with her adventures. Really great idea! I would recommend it
