This system works great! Easy to install, retracts great, and overall great hose. Best thing is the support! They are great! Fast, responsive, understanding and way easy to work with! That alone is the reason I will be a returning customer!

I was a little sceptical of the hose reel but after having used it for a while not I'm pleased with how it works. The only problem I've had with it is we had someone water for us while we were gone and they tried to push the hose in when they couldn't figure out how to get the reel to do it. Messed up the hose inside so had to pull most of the hose out and let the hose reel do it's job, so no real issue. I mounted this to a 4 x 4 post (see pic) and it's rock solid buried about 2 ft of post in concrete and cut some grooves so bolts would fit and not have to add another board to mount to, came out clean looking and rock solid. Longevity? it's only been a month or so but it seems like it's good for the long haul but time will tell.

I love the idea of a self-retractable hose reel. It is extremely easy to install with four bolts directly into the wall. I wish I would have known that the Tapcon screws were not included. Instead there are lag bolts that they give you with hollow wall anchors. Doesn’t exactly do me any good. I’m sure this was in the description somewhere but I just didn’t see it. The value for the money is marginal but in line with other units in this arena. It is light weight for ease of install. There is no lock on the unit with is a shame. And it looks good. However I would say that because the housing is completely plastic, it probably will fade with time. I guess that’s why they sell an optional reel cover for their unit. I am also probably going to buy a 90 degree fitting for the entry hose of the unit so that my hose isn’t jutting out of the reel. It’s kind of an eyesore. Also… because if the plastic mount… I do worry about UV degradation over time affecting it and making it brittle. Hopefully this lasts five years. Ten would be better.

After buying one of these hose reels and liking it, I bought about 9 months later. When I bought my first one, the reviews were higher. When buying the second one, I noticed they had trended downwards a bit. Well, it has been about 2.5 3 years of light use on my newer purchase and when I went to use it, water was pouring out of the bottom. Knowing it was out of warranty, I took it apart to see what was broken. Boy, is this thing designed to be disposable. The hose attaches to the reel with a plastic elbow (which had cracked). That elbow is secured to another plastic sleeve for the water inlet with a plastic c-clip. No standard, off-the-shelf parts here. And of course, not available from Giraffe Tools, either. Additionally, the hose is attached to the elbow using a compression fitting so you'd have to buy the entire hose for a failed plastic elbow. Using all plastic parts for the critical components does not make for a durable product. That, in and of itself, isn't a big deal if the product were designs it to be serviceable and replacement parts are available. That's not the case here. I contemplated ways to fix it until I noticed Costco sells an automatic reel which ADVERTISES it has a user-replaceable hose. It was longer and cheaper and is backed by a Costco lifetime warranty...I decided to cut my losses as it seems most hose reels on Amazon are a crap-shoot at least that's the picture I get from reading the reviews. TL;DR, It worked great...until it didn't. Important parts are all plastic. These parts are not standard items that can be purchased at a hardware store and are also not available from the company. For the price they're charging, I would look elsewhere. UPDATE: The first reel I bought kicked the bucket in the same fashion at about the 3.5 year mark. The only difference between the first and second reels I purchased was that the second one, which failed after 2.5 years was mounted outside whereas the first was mounted in my garage. I guess the indoor mounting prolonged the life by about a year...definitely avoid.

I had been looking for a good retractable hose reel and came across the Giraffe AW 30 1/2inch retractable. I was impressed with it as soon as I opened the box. Well-made and nicely designed. I did not attach to my house and attached to an existing structure made just for a hose reel. Set up and installation is simple, however please be aware that it's heavy and needs a secure mount. The reel comes with a special bracket and lag bolts that the reel attaches to and this must be securely attached to your house or a very strong post. Giraffe shows an installation on the side of a home. I purchased it last year and put it away for the winter season. Very easy to put on the bracket and take off. When I set it up this year there was an issue with retracting. I contacted Giraffe for some guidance on how to repair the unit. They asked for a short video of the problem. Within days I received a reply stating that they would ship me a new unit. I wasn't expecting that and of course was very pleased that the company stood behind their product and honored their warranty without any hassle. If you are looking for a retractable reel, you'll be pleased with this one.

I purchased two for my ranch, not happy about the hose kinking up and the cheap water nozzles which have sprung leaks from the plastic welds not holding the pressure! It warrants a low star rating due to the aforementioned deficiency. I'd return these both but I've hung them onto the hose and do not want the hassle of returning these and attempting to fill the mounting holes.. I don't mind spending money on quality, but these haven't met the standard.. ☆☆☆UPDATE☆☆☆ They did send out nozzle replacements within two days. I will adjust my rating to 3 Stars 🌟

The instructions recommended a drill bit that was too large, so when I drilled into the stud, the bolts just spun freely. For anyone installing this on wood without anchors, I’d suggest starting with a smaller drill bit than what the instructions recommend. Only go larger if the bolts give you trouble. This little tip could save you a lot of time and frustration like I had. Despite the installation hiccup, the reel itself is fantastic. It’s sturdy, swivels smoothly, and rewinds the hose with ease. If you’re looking for a reliable hose reel and don’t mind straying from the instructions, this one is a solid choice. Just be prepared to improvise a bit during installation. Happy watering!
