Bowfinger [DVD]

One of the better comedies out there.
A film with two hugely likeable charismatic lead actors and a premise so ridiculous that it just sounds plausible. A struggling director decides to set out to make a low budget film without the actual knowledge of it's lead actor. To do this he uses a look a like (Eddie Murphy plays two roles) or films interactions with the real actor. The film also works as a subtle parody of Hollywood and movie producers. Some of the jokes and comedy are actually quite funny while being in service of the plot. It also seems to be going for a bit of an underdog theme. Overall a fine film, never going to win any oscars but still not bad at all.

Silly fun with two great comedy legends.
I watched this for the first time some years ago and dismissed it as just another mediocre Steve Martin / Eddie Murphy movie that was far from either of their glory days ... but as a movie collector decided to pick it up when I saw it at a bargain price.I’ve just enjoyed laughing out loud at this Martin authored piece ... directed by Frank Oz.It’s silly but a unique story and most of all fun.Maybe I was being grumpy when I watched it first time around... maybe my wife had burnt my dinner again, the kids were being demanding or the dog had chewed my slippers.

No subtitles
It's a great film and I have it on DVD. Wanted to up-grade to Blu-ray but unfortunately that was a mistake as there are no sub-titles on the blu-ray. Will give it away to someone so that was a waste of money. Shame.

Get yourself some belly laughs.
This movie will not be everybodys cup of tea but I seem to enjoy it more everytime I watch it.A very good comedy with good perfomances from Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy in a tale of making a hit movie on a practical non existent budget. The scene were Eddie Murphy has to cross a freeway for the movie they are making is classic not to be missed.

More please Steve...
Bowfinger was made in 1999 and Steve Martin hasn't made a decent film since, which is a shame because he is one of the finest comedy actors out there. This one is a minor classic, a return to 80's form in fact. Martin plays a 3rd rate movie director desperate to get leading Hollywood star Kit Ramsey in his film. Of course he fails, but decides to shoot the film anyway, filming the star without his permission. Eddie Murphy is very good as Ramsey the movie star and as Ramsey the dumb brother who stands in for his famous brother.Martin put a lot of time into this film as a writer and it shows, because its very funny in places. Sadly Martin seems to have a problem choosing his projects. We can only hope that the wild and crazy guy will make another film this good at some point in the future.

Funny!
A silly film that will make you laugh more than you think if you watch it with the right mindset and realise it's taking the mickey out of the film industry!

"The Con is On!"
Waited for this BD release a long time. It was worth it. Best transfer possible from a middling SD. The detail revealed in this 2016 release made a decade-long wait worthwhile. But don't rely on me - read the late, great Roger Ebert's beautiful, pithy 1999 review.
