Sweet book with beautiful illustrations
We found this book at the library in the nonfiction animal section while researching a school project. My daughter fell in love with it, and we gave it to her for her 8th birthday.

A favorite
I first read, “How to Be a Good Creature” and loved it so much! I found this children's variation when looking for more by Sy Montgomery and was delighted to discover that there was more from the illustrator here. The deeper intelligence that lives in these pages coupled with the beauty of this book makes it an absolute treasure. I’ve gifted it many times.

Understanding animals and humans that are different
It made both my husband and I cry. The ending was so sweet, and anyone that has lost a pet will feel the same way. It is a great book to prepare your child for how losing a pet will feel. The other pages will make your child think about how they treat people and animals that are different than them. Spiders, hyenas, and other animals that aren’t always portrayed in the best light have good qualities too. Be open to all of them and you’ll find a positive quality. Anyone who gives this book a negative review did not understand the concept of the book.

Beautifully done!
I read the novel version " How to Be a Good Creature" a few years ago and absolutely loved it, plus Rebecca's illustrations in it are so sweet. The border collies on the cover initially caught my attention (I have two of my own) so I knew I would love it. It remains to be my favorite book today. As a fellow illustrator and animal lover, as soon as I found out about this version I immediately pre-ordered it. It is beautifully done and high quality printing/publishing. The story holds great lessons we can all learn or be reminded of and I believe people of all ages will enjoy this.

A beautiful, inspiring story of adventures with animals
This book is a treasure. Sy Montgomery's descriptions of her adventurous life are written in a style that's both accessible and deeply moving. Each small anecdote in the book contains a valuable life lesson from one of the animal friends Sy has met along her journey. These true stories are sure to inspire children and adults alike. The illustrations by Rebecca Green are gorgeous. I loved reading this book out loud to my autistic sister Kristy, and I will surely return to it again and again to find beauty and comfort in these strange times.

Perfect for any age story time and gifting.
This beautiful, powerful book shows lessons learned from animals. It is a book about humility and bravery and the wonders this world can show us. I love this book for reading to my school age litte one and will definately be using this as a go to birthday and holiday gifts. Combined with the adult version, How to Be a Good Creature, it makes the perfect combo for parents and kids and everyone who loves animals. One of my favorite picture books in the past few years!
