Delighted at the quality of the towels themselves, and by the 21 Century business model 1888 Mills is using to make them! Hurrah for this product!Very beefy, soft, thirsty cotton. And so-o-o- very absorbent.One bath towels dries my entire body after a shower -- AS WELL AS--my thick, long hair, without becoming soaked.Never seen a towel that could do that in my lifetime!In fact, it seems like the towel could keep absorbing water even after I'm done-- it is only just damp, not wet.These thick, gorgeous towels, have exceeded my every expectation.Clearly as you read these reviews, consumers look for quality and value first; but the fact that these makers of a quality product care about being just, as they create jobs and turn a profit-- is a big selling point for me.In case you think I was shopping for 'socially just' towels, I wasn't.I came across these towels completely by chance. In fact I was shopping for the most superficial of reasons--for color, then sorting what I found for quality. (I was looking for an earthy color; a taupe or warmer gray- colored towel. Which, I came to realize-- after looking at what seemed to be hundreds of choices of cooler, blue-gray and steel-gray towels-- isn't in fashion right now.) "Clay" is so rich looking , just perfect-- and perfectly made!

It's pricy for a single towel but I think it's worth it. It's a great towel, very thick, very absorbent, good size where it wraps around my spare tire with ease unlike my other towels which are a tight fit around my 41 inch waiste. Maybe 4 stars on the softness, but I'm a guy, it's perfectly soft for me. My only complaint, and it's a small one, somebody who shall remain nameless insists on throwing a bounce in with this when she runs the drier and the towel smells like poo-pourri. It holds the smell maybe cause it's thick, I don't know, but other than having to dry it separately, not with the sheets and other stuff, it's great. I've ordered another one. Now, it's just been a few weeks so I can't attest to how long it will last but it feels sturdy and I think it will last a long time. Overall - I love it. It's a 6 star item.

We’ve been using these 1888 Made Here towels at our guest retreat for six years. They are holding up well, are absorbent and thicker than most. This does impart the luxury feeling we seek to share with visitors. One reason why we chose these Cotton Made in Africa ones is because the bath towels are plenty large and satisfying, yet not giant. Some bath towels today are really the size of what used to be called bath sheets. Because our guest retreat has a small stackable washer dryer we sought great quality but no so large the washer would get clogged up when the maid needs to get everything ready quickly for the next guests.I read here that some feel the quality has gone down. We bought these replacements because some disappeared after the last visitors left. Imagine that! We’ll take that as a complement. At first I did not perceive a quality drop. However, the pattern near the ends is barely differentiated compared to the very well-crafted originals. Not enough contrast in the loop heights.

I've used a lot of towels in my life. Mostly hand me downs from my mom and towels that I borrowed from hotels. I was looking for a towel that would make me feel like a king for a few minutes while I dried myself off in the morning. I went to places such as Costco and my mom's closet to find that towel. I did not find what I was looking for until I searched Amazon. The reviews on the towel as well as helping some African villages made me order this the white towel.When I first used it, I thought it was a bit too fluffy. I immediately thought to myself that at least I've contributed 25 dollars to a village in Africa and helped in that way. However, after the 1st and 2nd wash of this towel, it has transformed itself into a wonderful, plush, ever so soft towel that is fit for a king!This towel is rather large, very soft, and very comfy in the morning. it's very absorbent and I'm glad I made this purchase. I can only speak for the bath towel and not the other small towels. I'm happy with it.

These are absolutely the nicest towels I've ever had. They are thick, absorbent and wash beautifully. So happy to have found these and will be ordering more. A tiny bit more expensive but so worth it!

This review is for the bath towel only. I have not yet tried the hand towels or washcloths.I've owned one of these towels for about a year now, and it's been pretty great. It's super absorbent, large enough to wrap around yourself comfortably, and fairly soft.I've bought all kinds of towels over the last few years trying to find one that I like. I've had everything from the super cheap towels that you can barely wrap around yourself to the more fancy Egyptian cotton towels and so far this Africa bath towel has been my favorite.This towel is actually relatively thin when compared to others such as Egyptian cotton, yet it feels like it absorbs water just as well if not better. I am able to dry myself faster than with any other towel I've used so far. Additionally, the thinness makes it feel light, and not cumbersome like some of the thicker towels can be.I personally went with the white color for this towel. It pretty low maintenance... I just toss it in with my whites wash and it comes out looking good as new!I will definitely be ordering more of these.
