Do I need to buy my own anchor and attach?

Does the mat absorb any water and make it heavier?

The mat itself does not absorb water. In that sense, it is waterproof. If an adult or two, is on the mat, water will come onto the mat in the dips caused by the weight of the adults. Children, generally do not weigh enough to cause the water to come onto the mat

Can large dogs go on it ? Will their paws poke holes?

I would not allow dogs on the mat

Are these towable behind a boat at speed?

They are not meant to be. But if you are handy you could put the rope through a 3” pvc and fold the front over like a toboggan and it would work. I did it at low speed and it got on top of the water.
