Does the device need to be connected to the mains when in use and the car is not being used for a few days?

The idea is that you leave the device connected to the car and mains when not in use to keep the battery consistently charged. It can stay in the car near the battery pack ready for use.

The description for the noco genius2duk says it has a battery repair & conditioner mode, yet the comparison table says it doesn't - which is it ?

The GENIUS2D desulfates during both the 12V and 6V charging modes. It is one of the first few steps in the charging process, if the charger detects sulfation in the battery it will automatically start desulfating during the charge, there is nothing that you need to do to activate it. The 12V Repair Mode that the larger models have is an additional mode dedicated to recovering heavily sulfated, stratified, old, damaged, and/or idle 12V batteries.

Is any using adhoc rather Onboard?

Most modern cars come with modular battery’s and are covered. The idea of these units is to add a battery charger that doesn’t need to be disconnected every time. You’d just plug the charger into an extension lead which you’d keep dry under the bonnet.

I want to connect it to a power inverter in my car's boot. Will it draw much power just to trickle charge my additional battery?

The NOCO Genius chargers have not been tested to be powered by inverters or generators. In theory, it will work as long as the power requirements of the charger are met. I have listed the power requirements below for the charger, including the max amperage draw of the charger. Working VAC: 120-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz Max Draw: 28W 0.12A @ 240V AC.

Well worth buying.

Ends too large for motorcycle battery

Unit works really well I misunderstood that this could also have crocodile clips as well as the ends shown. The ends shown are too big for my motorcycle battery and definitely too bulky to have the whole unit plus UK three pin plug permanently on the bike. Bought extra third party crocodile clips for fast connection while on the bike problem solved

It works great!

I had to leave my car for 6 months while I was abroad. I decided to connect this to the battery and plug it in and trust that it worked and didn't cook the battery. I was apprehensive and figured that if I let the battery to run down, it would need replacing and if the charger cooked the battery I'd need a new battery anyway. I was able to monitor the voltage via an app on my car and saw it vary between 14.5v and 12.0v It looked okay and it was with some trepidation that I returned and went to the car. I disconnected the charger and the car started first time and the battery was fully charged! Perfect. Since then, the car has run perfectly, no damage to the battery and all is well. I'm so grateful for this little intelligent charger! Wow! Love it.

I always find NoCo products to be well made

This unit is designed to be permanently connected to the battery. It does come with 10mm eyelets which I found to be on the large side. NoCo connection accessories seem to be either 6mm or 10mm. I think an 8mm option would be good. This unit has a low 2 amp charge rate with makes it suitable to left connected to trickle charge of condition the battery. If you want to charge a low battery faster, NoCo have higher amperage products more suitable for this. I am happy with this product and would happily buy it again.

Recovered an old tiring battery.

Had the battery on my bmw for about 4 years and been doing a ton of short runs 5,10 mins and it’s brutal on a battery. My app on my phone was indicating my battery was In a very poor state. I bought this charge more for its repair function and it has done exactly that. The battery is now back to been strong and in ok condition. And the fact you can just leave it in the car and Just connect an extension to it and leave it on charge for a couple of days is easy as well. So highly recommend.
