Political Animals: Season 1

Enjoyable Mini-Series.
This isn't a show for everyone. Some will probably find it to be too soapy, others will probably find it boring, but I actually enjoyed it. The key is getting through the first episode. The first episode is a bit of a mess, but in the other five episodes the show manages to find its ground. What surprised me the most with this show was how, even with only six episodes, I managed to come to care about the characters. By the end of the final episode, I really came to love this screwed up family. Sure, it is a political show, but there's also a family at the center of the drama. As someone who has a loved one suffer from drug addiction, watching the scenes with T.J. (played by Sebastian Stan) really tugged at my heart strings. He was amazing in this role. The pain, the hurt, all of it? It felt real. I think his story arc was easily my favorite out of every one's because Sebastian completely owned that role. Although I loved every scene that Ellen was in.I really enjoyed this mini-series, and I'm still bitter that we won't get to see more from these characters, especially after that ending. But even though the series ended on a cliffhanger, I would still recommend viewers check it out if only for the fantastic performances by the cast.

Politics at their Best and their Worst
Political Animals was nominated for TWO Golden Globes -- Best TV Mini-Series / TV Movie and Sigourney Weaver for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series / TV Movie. (The show has been cancelled due to lack of viewers)Describing this in five words, I would chose: Hilarious. Dramatic. Heart-Felt. Thrilling. Sexy.SUMMARY OF THE SHOW:This show is about a family, a former Presidential Family: the Hammonds. Bud Hammond was the previous president who was known for his numerous sex affairs and his wife divorced him. His wife, Elaine Barrish Hammond, sets out to be the next president; except, she is seen as the cold-heart, bitch; who is currently the Secretary of State. They have two sons, the first is a gay, drug addict; the second is the do-gooder, perfect son. As a family, they become political animals.Except, every animal is a prey or a predator, but who are prey and who are the predators?

One of the BEST on television
Political Animals was marketed by USA Network as a limited event series (aka mini series), but of course there was the option to renew it had it performed well. I love every USA show, so of course I watched this when it premiered last year. I was certified addicted 15 minutes into the very first episode. In the span of 6 weeks, this came to be one of my favorite shows on all of television. The acting and writing were fantastic, and the storyline always kept me interested. This series even went on to be nominated for Emmy Awards! While this show wasn't USA's biggest hit, it should have been renewed! The story alone deserved more time to be told! That being said, I am grateful that I can now add the DVD to my collection and watch it over and over again!

A must have
A fantastic limited series. Several compelling storylines, wonderful pacing and a top shelf cast with the standouts being Weaver and Sebastian Stan.

Extraordinary
I expected this show to be interesting because of Sigourney Weaver and Ellen Burstyn, two actresses with taste and so much brilliance -- but the show is more than interesting, it's fantastic, as extraordinary as "Friday Night Lights" for its focus on character and relationships and plot twists that keep you coming back again and again. I wish I could be more articulate in describing all the things I love about this show, but I'll just say it had me from the opening shot of the capitol. The cast is brilliant and the writing is, too. If you are intrigued and fascinated by Washington politics and the media, and want to peek behind the scenes, this is your show. Fiction yes, but so imaginative and beautifully done in every way that it is truly alive in its own reality.

Good show
Too bad they couldn't continue. The other review said it all - originally I picked it up because of Ciarán Hinds, but the overall cast and script kept me going. It's a good show!

Arrived in good condition. It's a shame this series was so short. I would have loved to have seen more! This was a masterpiece and one can treat it more like an extended movie than a TV show. A great glimpse behind the scenes of American political life similar to The West Wing with more of a focus on a single presidential family. Stellar cast that definitely brought their best to this show. Worth every penny!

For the dance between Sigourney Weaver and Ciaran Hinds.
If the addict son's story is a bit tiresome, the political/personal dance between Ex-wife Secretary of State vs Ex-husband ex POTUS, Sigourney Weaver and Ciaran Hinds is so beautiful to follow. Everything was set for a great second season. Alas.
