This Silpain ( Silpat for bread) is a must when making dough and baking bread rolls, buns and more. This 11-5/8 x 16-1/2-inch mat will turn your pan into a non-stick surface. The mat is a flexible, non-stick, easy-to-use liner that has a perforated texture covered with food grade silicone and can be used thousands of times. It is ideal for freezing and for baking bread of all shapes and sizes, which are not required to be calibrated, as well as for the partial baking of tarts. The mat must be used flat and placed on a tray (we recommend a perforated tray as this provides better heat circulation). The mat is easily cleaned using a soft sponge under running water. Nothing sticks to Silpat, so it will save you a lot of time cleaning as there in no more sticky mess on your pans! Silpat never needs greasing, which saves both time and money. Use Silpat instead for any baking recipe that calls for parchment paper. This saves money and creates less waste for our environment. **Q: How does this baking mat differ from the other Silpat baking mats?**
A: Lot of good, correct answers provided by others.  Another item that I have personally found; my silpain mats make better cookies as they don't spread out thin like on my silpat mats. Also, cookies baked on silpat, although thin, don't seem to cook in the center as well as on this silpain.  Pain is french for bread so it makes since that it's the bread mat.

A: No, for Macaron or meringue, the regular Silpat or the Silpat Macaron is recommended, it won't work on the Silpain (black) SN415290-02

**Q: Can the Silpat Silpain mat be used to bake macarons?**
A: Yes, you can use a Silpat, however you may want to get the one that has the guides already on it, so that your cookie size is as similar as possible. Unless you are experienced at layout them out without the guide marks.  Then it doesn't matter about the guides.  The one in the image is mainly for breads, and can be used for Macarons.   However, there are other Silpats that are used for Macarons as well.  Not sure if there is a price difference.
