Strategic Relocation, North American Guide to Safe Places, Fourth Edition

Good but you still need to DYOR
This is the second book that I have bought, the 3rd edition and now the 4th edition. It's a great book that compiles a lot of information which says you time in doing some of your own research. However once you find a place that you like you can use this book to help guide you, or use the book to guide you towards finding a place. I have used the book in that bidirectional manner.I have felt that some areas within some states may have been overlooked with regards to retreat areas or just areas that are desirable to live in. For example, there are parts of some states that are not near any highways, but are not mentioned as good places to be away from large cities, etc. Granted, I know that there are other variables, but my point is that you still need to do your own research. Also, every person and situation are different. It's difficult to find a state, a rural locale, etc., that checks every box. For me, my biggest dilemma right now is to live in a state that is higher priced, has a lot of snow, which I'm neutral on, but great for my profession, or another state that has a more temperate climate for year round living, longer growing season, less predators (I lost 6 ducks, 18 chickens, and 4 quail to a bear this year, completely wiped out), but not as good for my profession. There are the things you need to think about. Not just that, but when you get older, do you want to be living in snow? Do you want to risk injury by living in a certain type of condition if it exists? After slipping on some ice and hitting the back of my head last year, I asked myself, "is this a place I want to be when I'm 70?", and the answer was no. Also, you really need to give good thought to your layout if you are planning to buy raw land. We didn't. And the answer to our question is, no...we don't want to be here when we are 70. The snow removal is just too hard for our layout.I remember reading some review on how this book was bashing the left and taking a political leaning toward the right. Well, being A-political, and having no dog in the race, I would much rather live in a red state than a blue, and if it was blue, then a strongly conservative red area. The left has become so radical and insane with their ideology, this should not even be a consideration - to live in such an area.Just remember to take things with a grain of salt when reading this book because everyone's situation is different. Just because a state may be only 2 stars, once you are out of the city, the stats for crime are essentially irrelevant, and other things may not really be a factor either.

Great book!
These reviews crack me up. The book is about safe places to escape to in time of trouble. That's it. Why make it more than that. The book is a nice attempt to help people but honestly there will be no safe places in the coming future. Look 👆 up

Great book with timely updates
I have the 3rd edition, this 4th edition was well worth the money in my opinion. Copyright is 2020 so recent printing, updates are pertinent to all who understand the value of a book like this. Very happy, it is comprehensive, well written and has lots of pictures and maps to help you see everything laid out.If you know, you know. If you don't, then get this book and read it and you will know.

Where it is safer to live/bug-out to. Profiles of each state and nuclear targets.
Mostly directed to U.S., but some info on CANADA, where I live. Maps showing nuclear targets. Other info on geography, climate, crime, standard of living, freedoms, threats and war, strategies for survival and regional analysis for each state. Every prepper should have this book.

Well researched but should also be abridged.
I 95% agree with the premise of this book and thank the authors for their efforts! Buy it.However I will focus this review on the other 5% for the sake of future editions. This book offers mounds of information and doesn't tell you where to move to. That's on you. The authors clearly state that the metrics and priorities that you use are different than theirs. You may disagree with their assessment of threats and politics. Many of the conspiracies they discuss (I believe) are most likely true. However I can't help but to think they got distracted trying to prove it. It's a bit overwhelming reading all the ways the world is messed up and you can't do much about it. Most of this doesn't contribute to helpful wisdom on picking a prosperous location in the world. This book should not be read cover to cover. Pick the section that you're concerned with and start there. They start with overseas locations and make some sweeping generalizations on places that I'm pretty sure they have never been to. They rank nuclear warfare and occupation as a much higher threat than is rational. Most people who die or suffer under the category of problems that this book aims to avoid, do so by relatively boring means that are less dramatic than nuclear holocaust or Red Dawn-ish invasion. Like starvation, drought, or oppression from a people group of the same language and culture as opposed to a foreign enemy. Why hyperfocus on enemies foreign when you have enemies domestic just down the street? And why are we more afraid of man vs man demise than man vs nature demise (back to the starvation vs occupation issue)? As a side note, when reading this book and others like it remember... Everyone is going to die. You are going to die. Don't dedicate your entire existence trying to fight it. Prepare for the future but don't neglect the present. In the Ecclesiastes sense, it doesn't really matter how you die or when. The world is messed up. Start change locally. With that said I took some of this to heart and moved (quite a ways away) to try to thrive and leave a legacy. This book has some good perspective on that. Perhaps a Cliff Notes version would better serve more people though...

Best book going into 2024!!!
With the amount of civil unrest, cultural changes, numerous wars and coming election I needed this book. It is 100% on point with the where/when/why/how if the SHTF with Russia/China. Additionally though it's great for helping you pick a safe place for yourself or family just to live. Get the know on everything about every country or U.S. state. Color maps are gold and the research priceless. I will definitely be putting it to great use in 2024/2025. Fantastic Book! 10/10!
