You can listen to .mp3 and .flacc (the only two I've tried) but they're great!-Physical interface is responsive and feels good. The buttons are clicky, and the wheel feels nice to use.-Really good battery life since I have never had it run out, and it's been accidentally playing for 6 hours without fail.-Operating system is basic but works well. (NOTE: It's really good to organise your files)-The back is glass so could be scratched if you don't have the utmost care. (you can buy a protective pouch or case, but I don't think it's necessary)-The Operating system as mentioned above is very simple and if you have lots of artists (I have like 700ish) then it could take a while to scroll through them all. (Organise !!!)Definitely buy the Surfans F20 if you're on the fence about it, or if you're new to the audio world.It's Great!!Pros-I wanted a Digital Audio Player that allowed me to listen offline, wherever I wanted, and without the hassle of using my phone. This was achieved by the Surfans F20 very well, and I am pleased on this.-The Physical Quality is good. The main body of the player is made of aluminium I believe, which makes the player very light and easy to transport. I measured it, and it came to 114g. In addition, I have frankly abused the little machine since I have dropped it on tarmac (from about 0.5-1 metres high) and it was fine with just a few dings. I chuck it in my pocket, bag, anywhere really. (That's not to say it's indestructible, and if you really really whack it around it will break).I do still have care for the machine, but I'm not actively making sure it's going to be alright.-The Audio Quality is very nice. I play mostly .mp3 files on my Surfans since that's what I can readily get. However, I have ripped CDs (taken the files from a CD) and put them onto the machine, and it plays them fine with really nice quality. However, I'm using simple earbuds (around £25) which probably don't do the player justice.I'm not mega concerned with having the absolute best audio, but the Surfans F20 is great!-The Physical buttons are really nice. Obviously the main visual attraction is the large scroll wheel. This is really nice and responsive - you feel the little 'ticks' as it scrolls around. (NOTE: It is NOT like an IPod wheel that is touch sensitive. You have to press down a little more).However I noticed that sometimes when going from one item to the next when using the player, the scroll wheel sometimes has to have two 'ticks' before the selector changes. Very Minor, but thought to point it out.-The Digital Interface is decent. When using the Surfans F20 player, the digital interface (Operating System) is very basic, but it serves the purpose. It allows for song selection, artists, etc... However you need to structure your files for the best experience.(I suggest structuring your music with folders of all your artists alphabetically, and then songs of each artists in those folders. In addition, you can make a folder of your regular playlist and have that on there as well. If you do this, I suggest putting a "0" at the beginning of the name to make sure it appears at either the very top or the very bottom which you can locate by going forwards or backwards easily.)-Battery Life is excellent. I have been using the Surfans F20almost everyday since I bought it (about a month and a half ago when writing this post) Never once has it run out of charge when using for long periods of time. Sometimes I will charge the machine once every 3 days when the battery indicator goes down by 1 bar. The Battery life is really good!!Cons-The back is made of Glass. (I think it's glass, but I don't remember if the product listing said it was glass). This means that if you aren't really cared about keeping the player completely unscratched, then the chances of the glass on the back being slightly damaged is quite high.This doesn't mean that it will shatter and break, but it will have a few scratches.-Operating System could be difficult to navigate. Although I mentioned as a Pro above, the operating system can be difficult to navigate if you have a lot of folders (I have over 700 main artist folders). Make sure to structure your folders well.Overall-Value for money is excellent. You get a light, portable, easy to use digital music player that works really well for its purpose and price. If you wanted slightly better sound quality you would most likely have to pay an extra few hundred quid.Definitely a good purchase!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great player with a few minor drawbacks *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 19 May 2026* OK. So I was looking for a fairly high-end DAP which I could store and play my FLAC files on. This hasn't disappointed sound-wise. The sound quality is crisp, clear and at the price is something an audiophile would be proud to own. The device supports gapless playback which is an absolute must for me, and from selection of tracks is lightning quick to play them. The in-built graphic equaliser is decent, with some fair presets and allowable customisation dependent on your preference. The settings menu is fairly extensive too with a plethora of presets to allow you to engage with the device as best you see fit. eg, timers, themes, display settings.. etc.The navigation on the system is pretty decent - I tend to navigate by file structure as per my own structure and this works just fine. It is important to note that unlike the 'click-wheel' on the old iPod video, this is actually a mechanical wheel, sturdy, knurled and at the moment a little stiff but I can only assume will loosen up slightly with more use.It comes with a 64gB micro SDHC card but as other reviewers have mentioned, it is pretty slow in transfer speeds and I wanted a larger capacity anyway so upgraded to a 512gB SDHC which was a considerable improvement, not to mention the larger capacity.The product is manufactured from aluminium alloy and for the small size is surprisingly weighty, this is a plus for me, it feels like there is true quality in this product, not something flimsy which could break down.The buttons are very responsive, there's a nice feel to physical buttons rather than a touch-screen.There are a couple of down sides to this machine which could do with improvement though. This is not to say they are a breaker as to whether to buy this machine or not, but merely should be pointed out so that you have an informed decision should you wish to choose over others.Firstly and most noticeably, when plugging the device into my laptop to transfer files, the transfer rate is quite slow, around 6MB/s despite my installation of a high-end SDHC card. I can only assume the device itself is causing the transfer lag. However, I am fortunate enough to have a SDHC port on my laptop and upon plugging the card into this found a noticeable difference at around 20-22 MB/s transfer speed. This is a relatively minor issue and hasn't caused me any problems.The second is that whilst playing music if the device goes into sleep mode, none of the buttons are responsive. You literally have to press the power button to re-energise it out of sleep mode to be able to skip tracks/adjust volume etc. This could be a more significant problem dependant on how you intend to use the device. Again, this isn't a real issue for me, and the pro's for this device far outweigh the cons.The third (very) minor issue is that it has a glass back... I'm forever wiping my fingerprints off it!I did extensive research into opting for this device - the only one which came close was the HiFi Walker H2, however numerous reviews always mentioned the warmer feel to the output on this device, plus the price tag was slightly cheaper.I have been using for about two days now but will update should I find anything more. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I stopped using my phone for music after this *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 9 July 2026* I mainly bought this player because I wanted to enjoy my FLAC library without constantly using my phone, and it has been a great experience. The sound is noticeably cleaner and more detailed than what I'm used to from a smartphone. With a good pair of wired headphones, vocals sound more natural, instruments have their own space, and the overall presentation feels much more open and immersive. Going back to compressed streaming music is honestly hard after hearing the difference.I've been using it during my commute, while working, and even before bed when I just want to relax with music. The physical buttons are easy to use without looking, and I like being able to browse my folders instead of dealing with apps or notifications. The included memory card was enough to get started, and there's plenty of room to expand for a larger collection of lossless albums.I also like that I can switch between wired headphones and Bluetooth depending on where I am. Most of the time I use wired earphones because they really let the high-resolution audio shine, but Bluetooth is convenient when I'm out walking. I even connected it to my home stereo through the line-out, and it produced a clean, detailed signal that sounded excellent through my speakers.Battery life has been more than enough for my daily listening, and having a dedicated music player means my phone stays charged for everything else.
