Great Product and Great Service
Our RV did not come with a spare or anyway to attach one. To complicate matters, we have a rear slide out that limits the height of what can be attach to the hitch and bumper. We were told by the dealer that this carrier would not work on RV and to have one made. Eventually we had a custom spare tire rack made for us, but were left with the task of lifting a 70 pound tire and wheel onto it. It worked, but was far from ideal. We purchased this carrier when we setup our car to be towed by our RV, expecting to have to lower it when we extended the slide out. To our surprise, the unit is relatively compact, and the slide out easily extends over it. One person can quickly mount a tire on it, and the leverage gained from the extendable handle makes lifting the tire no problem at all. The built in receiver is at the perfect height to attach a tow bar to our car. This is a great product for anyone wants to avoid paying the exorbitant cost to purchase a tire from roadside assistance and tow a car or trailer at the same time. Pros: Well Built Cons: None in use Easy to put together Fits most spare tires and wheels Roadmaster support was very helpful Peace of mind

Issues Using the Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier with an older Monoco.
I spoke to the tech support people at Roadmaster both before and after I ordered this carrier. I was told it would work on "most" motorhomes, and I have no doubt that this is true. However, my 2001 Monoco Windsor is one of those that it really doesn't work well on - unless you think outside of the box a bit. The Roadmaster Spare tire carrier is designed to be mounted in your main receiver and has another receiver attached that allows you to connect your tow bar into the spare tire carrier itself. This is a sort of "pass through" that allows you to still tow a vehicle behind the motorhome with the spare tire carrier acting as a sort of "extension" for your receiver. For many motorhomes this will work fine. However, the Monoco (DP) has an engine cover that pulls out and lifts up. Even with the spare tire lowered to the side as in their video, the engine cover does NOT clear the spare tire carrier - at least not with the receiver as is. My choices were to return the spare tire carrier - which I purchased to save myself some cargo room in one of the pass through bays - or think outside of the box. My solution was this: Fortunately, my DP has a hitch with 3 receivers built in. The normal one in the middle and two other receivers somewhat higher and perhaps 18" to either side of the main receiver. They are both also extended out about 4" more that the main receiver. This allows me to mount the spare tire in the left hand receiver - in its most extended position of two - and still be able to raise and lower the door. Of course, the problem then when I make a left hand turn, the two bar WILL hit the spare tire carrier. I am rectifying this issue by purchasing the 071 receiver extension from Roadmaster which SHOULD extend the tow bar out far enough to allow for normal turning "without" hitting the tow bar on the spare tire carrier. Of course, it would have been cheaper to limit myself to right hand turns only, but I suspected that this might be inconvenient at times, so I ordered the extension. Note that this particular extension is ONLY for tow vehicles. It has a tow rating of 6000 lbs, but it's tongue weight rating is only 100 lbs. I found extensions with a higher tongue weight, but the tow rating was only 3500 lbs - not enough for most towed vehicles. I have also added "hitch tighteners" to all of my hitch connections including the spare tire carrier, the hitch extender, and the bike rack and hitch adapter on my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited tow vehicle. If you don't have the luxury of having more than a single receiver, consider adding one. I like the "look" of the spare tire carrier being off-center on my rig. Also, in the middle it blocks my license plate. Off-center, it doesn't. The only down side to mounting the spare tire carrier off-centered that I can see is that, when lowering the tire - as needed to access the engine or to use the spare - the tire comes down a little further out than the side of the MH - and the handle comes down FAR past of the side of the MH. You would need to keep this in mind if doing this on the side of the road as it would be easy to get hit lowering the spare. However, if you wait for traffic to clear and REMOVE the lowering handle immediately after lowering the spare, you should be good. Again, just be careful in traffic. Too many people are still spending more time looking at their phone than where they are driving. Finally, this really is a well built carrier. It's HEAVY. All steel. The welds look good and it does hold my 22.5" tire and steel rim. I will say that it tends to lean a bit in the fully extended position but this could be alleviated somewhat by using a shim in the receiver - if it's at all loose fitting - and using a good quality hitch tightener, or other clamping device where the spare tire carrier and the receiver tube meet. Since I'm not using the pass through receiver on the spare tire carrier, I'm considering having it removed to allow my tow bar to clear the spare tire carrier more easily, but I will have to do further research first - and wait until the warranty has expired, of course.

Expensive - but worth it
Very sturdy and well made. Easy to install. Be sure to have Locktite 'Red' on hand for the bolts. The extension handle makes such a difference - nice feature - make it a one person job to raise and lower the spare. Expensive - but the best investment yet !

Pricey but excellent
It is a great product. It was easy to install and is very functional and quite sturdy. It's best feature is that it allows one to lower the spare tire to the ground before removing it for use and in the reverse direction makes it simple to attach the spare and raise It into position. Another nice feature is that one can still attach a trailer or a bicycle rack to the hitch. It costs substantially more than some of the alternatives but to me it's ease of operation and solid construction was worth the price.

Made from high quality steel; very rugged; good design
Needed a spare tire carrier for my Class A Motorhome because there was no way I could get a 22.5 inch tire and wheel in a storage bay (it weighs about 140 pounds). Found this Roadmaster unit on the web and made the purchase. It is well built and heavy. It has provisions to slide a tow bar into the receiver mounted below the wheel. Moving the tire & wheel to the vertical position from the ground takes a lot of muscle. The only thing I would consider adding is a gas strut to aid the lifting effort. Otherwise, I am well pleased with the unit. I suggested this carrier to one of our camping club members and he purchased one as well.

Hitch mounted spare tire carrier made for RV's
Why did you pick this product vs others?: It is advertised as made for dual wheels 16" and larger. Also, because of a rear slide out on my RV, I liked the feature of being able to lower the spare tire to the ground. Fit: The instructions recommended using lug nut holes opposite each other for bolting spare to carrier. I had to use holes closer together than opposite. The holes and slots in carrier won't line up with my opposite lug nut holes. I think with a larger wheel you wouldn't have this issue. Functionality: Very good. Weight: Heavy about 70#. Value for money: Expensive but probably worth it. Look: Looks good on the back of my RV.

Durable. Easy Install. Worth It.
If the Titanic was built like this thing it would still be afloat. Very sturdy. I can't imagine a lighter bumper mounted carrier taking the weight of my rv spare. I would have been biting my nails on every bump and pothole. Not with this. Yes, it isn't really pretty and it does position the spare just behind the bumper, but adding a carrier under the motorhome wasn't really an option. After reading horror stories of trips ruined with local services unable to find a wheel and tire or charging a fortune for a used wheel and a "close match" tire, I went with this for peace of mind.

Okay, It's expensive, But this thing is rock solid. I needed it for our trip to Mexico and My class A has a 22.5' Wheel. That thing alone could weigh upto 180 lbs. None of the other options looked capable of handleing that or flat out limited to 100 lbs. I can easily load and unload the tire by myself though the weight does make it a bit awkward. I'm not sure if I was a foot shorter than my 6'+ how that would work. There is about a 3 foot bar that attaches on top to lever the tire into place. Build quality is excellent. I pull a car behind on a dolly and have had zero issues.

The mount is definitely solid. Haven't used yet, It should work and was an easy install. The paint flaked 5 minutes after the install, so don't have high expectations for paint longevity. Another issue is with the seller Canada Direct. After submitting the order a couple of days later they lower the price by $50 dollars. I requested a refund for the difference and they refused with no understandable explanation. I would give the product a five star but the paint peeling it gets a four. As far as Canada Direct is concerned it was disappointing not getting a refund for the $50. I have used them previously with success but in the future make sure to deal with those who have price guarantees on their own pricing especially on high cost items. The seller gets a 3 star

Very pleased with this item. Extremely well built and easy to put ogether/install. Because it is made so solid it is a little heavy to install and remove from your hitch. You may want a second person for a little help to do this.

Would be nice to have the offset rise up instead of dropping as this reduces an already low clearance for going over bumps or slight dips
