This was a fun book to read with my nephew. It was the first cyoa and he thought I was joking when I said "you" instead of a character name and again when I made him make the first choice. It was fun to explain to him that every story changes who you are and puts you in a new place until you're done reading, and these books took that to a new level and made you the character. He really put thought into some important decisions, and when it came to let the boy help rebuild a fallen part of the sand castle he said he didn't think it was to say the boy couldn't help because he was too small. It's funny because for lil B it would be a 2 year old helping, even though the character seems to be 8 and the little boy seems around four or five.

Great book for young kids.
My 3 year old granddaughter loved this book. She wanted it read over and over choosing a different ending each time. It was her favorite book all summer.

As far as "Choose Your Own Adventure" Books go, this one isn't very interesting. Many of the storylines just end abruptly - not with peril or success - just with a "The End" that comes out of nowhere. It left my son asking, "Is that it?" several times. We've read several of these style books, and this one was our least favorite. I'd suggest any other CYOA title over this one.

My 5 year old son loves this book. The endings to the stories are very abrupt, but he doesn't seem to mind.

This CYOA book is an adventure for sure
Students love the Choose Your Own Adventure books. The Sand Castle book really jumps around a lot. A little obscure but still fun. Sand Castle (Choose Your Own Adventure - Dragonlarks)

It's par for the course for these books. Better than a lot of them.
It's not bad, but most of these books do not have enough choices and too much linear story.Once again , the story is pretty scary for a child. Our 4 year old does not want to go into that castle since there is a mean fish right in the entry way.

Inspiration to get kids to read!
Loved these as a kid myself. My 7 year old son enjoys the reading level on this and the many endings. Gets him to want to read.

Dissappointing
Being familiar with this genre of book from way back, I expected this series to be a readable version for younger chuildren. They are in instead, boring in the extreme. Some choices end in a few pages, with a very unsatistactory ending. My grandaughter could not even be bothered to make the choices when prompted, as the stories were so tame.
