The Calligrapher's Garden

I have purchased this book three times now - it makes such a perfect gift. Each page has a line of poetry or two, with Hassan Massoudy's characteristic sweeping painted calligraphy on the opposite page. Each painting evokes some visual aspect of the poetry - whether a tree, a seed, water, a flower, or storm. The illustrations are so vibrant (beautifully printed) and add new dimension and meaning to the verses. You can get a preview of Massoudy's art on his website, many of those on his galleries online that depict lines of poetry about nature are in this very book. It's the perfect kind of book to pick up any time of day when you are feeling contemplative or want to be inspired - you can open it up to any page and get lost in the words/art, a discover a new appreciation for the nature. This book is available in a larger size, but I feel like the experience is much richer in this compact book.

The calligraphic forms of the poems are just beautiful! A beautiful keepsake kind of book to have. Also good for those wanting to practice their Arabic calligraphy. Lovely examples.

If there is a hole in your soul, this book can probably help you patch it up. Hassan Massoudy's calligraphy intensify and nourishes poems and old written wisdom alike and it is a delight to pick this book and breath in the words and colors.

Not what I expected. It is a book of verse, not calligraphy as I had expected. My fault for not studying it more closely before ordering. I'll be reading it, however.

Every page have a wonderful and colorful calligraphy.It's a book to enjoy with a cup of tea late at night in a quiet room.People who love calligraphy with a touch of spirituality should buy it.

Great drawing and sayings

This unique little book is a treasure. Visually, aesthetically, and spiritually nourishing, it's an exquisite pairing of masterful artwork (by one of the world's greatest contemporary calligraphers) with evocative brief texts drawn from poetry, proverbs, and other sources. I found it in a museum shop, bought it as a gift, and am about to order multiple copies from Amazon -- several to give as gifts in the future and one for myself. Although it's a paperback, it was obviously produced with great care; the paper quality is excellent and the colors are beautiful and vivid.

The book shows some really nice samples of calligraphy-painting.I enjoyed it a lot and it's probably the best of its kind.

Le livre m'a un peu surpris par sa petite taille, contrairement aux autres livres que j'ai d'Hassam Massoudy. Donc j'ai été un peu déçue.La calligraphie reste de qualité et rafraichissante.
