Metra 99-5720 Dash Kit For Escort/Tracer 97-04 Kitwith Harness

Fitment isn’t great, need to shave a good bit to fit correctly, and not great for the radio bracket tabs to have support.

my name is Steven. im 17, and just bought a 1998 ford escort. it had the factory radio in it and i had a bunch of stereo stuff i bought but couldnt install because i needed an adapting faceplate. so i found this, i ordered it and it came when it was suppose to. and for any of you that are going to attempt to install their stereo head themselves expect ALOT of work. the worst part was taking the hot/cold knob/wire off the factory faceplate. since the faceplate doesnt come out alot you have very little room to work in. mi hands and arms were all scratched up by the time i finished the install.anyways when i finnaly got the factory faceplate off i had to figure where the adapting wire harness went because there is 2 different places to put them. one is the power wires and the other is the speaker wires. the harness that comes with the kit goes on the power wires and your stereo head should come with its own wire harness that goes on the speaker ones.after that i connected the climate control knobs back, which was pretty easy(the factory screws that went anywhere on the old faceplate did not fit on the new one)but thats ok i installed my kit w/o them and its working just fine.then i tried to put the faceplate in but it wouldnt go in all the way. i had to trim the plastic in the opening. which wasnt really a problem, it looks really bad but u dont see it after its all done.(it is annoying tho that i had to do that though)It popped in there fine after i gave it a couple good pushes. after i connected all the wires i tried to put the stereo head in. it would only go half way in. i finnaly figured out that one of the big bundle of wires that went to the climate control knobs was barely in the way. so make sure all your wires are out of the way. after that i was done!it works but its very cheap. its flat, it could b alittle more round like the factory faceplate is. and where the hot/cold colors are its just basicly a punched out sticker thats inlayed in the faceplate. very easy for it to come/fall off.other than the cheap quality and having to trim plastic for it to fit its ok. but theres not many options for the ford escort.(and if your escort is manual like mine it'll be even more uncomfortable putting this kit in).

Amazing fit had no issues there But I with it warned me that when uninstalling the factory one that it warned me about the temperature knob would cause me so much of a issue getting it back connected it took me like a month for me to fix.

It worked. It wouldn't clip-in like the factory unit. .. reading the reviews for all the other escort kits it seems that's just the way its gonna be, but its very acceptable.Install wasn't easy, but I blame the escort. Trimming of the dash was necessary, but not to a point like the instructions laid out. Straight forward instructions though, very basic like IKEA.I think the LED is bright enough to see the controls in the dark. The defrost switch is kinda nice. My JVC head unit looks pretty nice in there.

Easy to install. Great instructions. Doesn’t fit as well as it should and sticks out a little.

Pretty decent kit, would have been nice to have clear instructions on how to swap the ford heat control parts over. The set screws that hold the ford controls on the back are a touch too big to screw into the new bezels small holes. Had to scrounge around my tool box to find some screws that would work. Fit pretty nice, zero curve to the install kit it's flat faced. A little more room for the deck could have been added by rounding the top half out a little. Not bad for the price though. Harness and kit are included.

It is a good kit. It does what it is supposed to do. It is ugly but it works. I do wish that the instructions were more clear but overall ok.
