A Moving Important Work on the Gita
This work is a commentary of Tilak’s commentary by Lokmanyo Tilak, the Gita Rahasya (“The Essence of the Gita”). The original commentary by Tilak exceeds one thousand pages. The first volume is an overview of the entire work and Tilak’s interpretation of the Gita to the Indian society. The second volume is a line-by-line commentary; both volumes are over five hundred pages. This volume is thus a commentary of a commentary, something not unheard-of in Hindu literature. Here Tiwari applies the Gita’s principles on contemporary society; part exposition on Hindu sanatana; part personal spiritual odyssey. It succeeds on all accounts. Tiwari include copious quotations from the Gita, relevant passages from other Hindu scripture, and of course, from Tilak’s work itself. This work get high marks as a commentary on the Gita. It also excels as an independent spiritual and inspirational work. Many portions indeed are moving and thought-provoking. It is very recommended.
