Sony BDPBX650 Blu-Ray Player with Wi-Fi

Cheapy build quality, definitely not up to Sony standards. Got a good price for it from Amazon.

I bought this to replace an older sony bluray player it worked ok but was real slow. this player is very quick easy to setup and easy to browse the internet however it has problems the apps keep crashing, while connected to youtube it crashed 4 times in one hour. I thought it might be 2.4ghz WiFi so I connected it to a 5.8ghz adapter still crashed so finally I ran a cable to my router didn't make a bit of difference crash crash crash bummer. i'm giving it 2 stars because I do like the size and on screen format. I should have read these reviews first.

It has all the features that I wanted!!!!!!

I purchased this as a gift for my mom. I own a Samsung Ray player myself. I prefer the Samsung player. This seems like a very flimsy device. I've only had it set up for two days and it seems to be OK at the moment. But for some reason I don't particularly like it or feel confident that it's going to be long-lasting. It just seems very flimsy.

Update: this went from 5 stars to 1 star. I tried using a blu ray for the first time. The machine crashed every time I selected the disc in the menu. My device does not play blu rays at all.This is great. I've read a lot about how unreliable this device is, but I've had excellent luck with it. It comes with preloaded apps, including server streaming (wifi streaming from my PC!!), and screen-mirroring. Also you can stream content from places like Hulu or Netflix from this, though I ususally use my smart TV's applications.The upscaling is actually pretty impressive. I have a large 4k TV and I can really enjoy nice clarity when playing regular DVDs. I haven't tried Blu-rays yet, but I'm sure they will look great as well. With 4k Blu-rays on the horizon, this technology might become dated, but frankly for the price, you really can't do much better for home entertainment.

Seemed like a great buy at first. Could watch Netflix and Amazon in HD and played any type of CD or DVD flawlessly. HOwever, little by little interacting with the Internet became a problem - first reverting to SD, then pausing repeatedly to buffer, and finally just exiting out of what we were watching without warning and on to the next episode or home screen. It does not appear to be a bandwidth issue as Amazon and Netflix worked fine on a computer on the same Wifi hooked up to the same TV. Last straw was when we got a notice on the Amazon site that said CBS All Access wouldn't work on the device. Save your money if you hoped to get something to watch streaming TV without headaches. Update: Seller refused to respond, so Amazon provided a credit. Thanks, Amazon. Avoid this seller.

The DVD player worked flawlessly out of the box. The upscaling feature is great and has improved the picture quality of standard DVDs significantly. I have not tried a blu ray DVD or a 3D DVD. Another great feature is that the DVD player automatically switches from the cable input to the DVD input on the TV. No more finding the original TV remote and switching from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2. Also, I have not tried the internet access function as I already have this as a feature of my TV. I'll give it a try and report back later. I did not buy this product at Amazon, but got a very good deal from a large retailer that sells products at a discount. Given the price, I can't see how you could go wrong with this product, as the upscaling feature and the DVD player function are very easy to use and give excellent results. More to follow.
