Interesting and informative
This book serves as an excellent introduction for those not familiar with women monarchs and other powerful women leaders in Africa. Many of the women mentioned I was familiar with, but there were many more I discovered for the first time in this book. I was also impressed by the cultural details from various regions, especially the information about the merchant queens. An essential book for anyone serious about African history and culture.

Nwando Achebe is a treasure to Umu Ada Igbo!
Nwando Achebe is a treasure to Umu Ada Igbo(Igbo women), all African women and even all women worldwide! Her writings are incredibly informative and eye-opening. I love her scholarly and intellectual style of writing. This is definitely one of those books you must have!I have read two other books by her ("The Female King of Colonial Nigeria: Ahebi Ugbabe," and "Farmers, Traders, Warriors, and Kings: Female Power and Authority in Northern Igboland, 1900-1960 (Social History of Africa Series)") and my life has never been the same since then.Thank you and may God bless you!
