Red Co.5” x 7” Embossed Quill Textured Faux Leather Journal, 240 Lined Pages, Black

I was in need of a new journal since I want to write down my thoughts, inspirational messages I come across, and Bible verses that stick out to me. After some searching, I found these journals by Red Co and they looked to be just what I was looking for. There are a lot of color options and designs to choose from but I went with the standard black with the quill on the front to see how I like it.When this journal arrived, I believe it was wrapped in plastic. After taking off the plastic covering, the journal had a bit of a plastic smell to it but that went away within a day or two. Other than that, this journal has been exactly what I wanted! The black color looks nice and high-quality, without a big price tag. The quill is embossed and looks nicely made. The journal itself measures 5 1/4 inches by 7 1/4 inches by 5/8 inches. There are 120 sheets of paper (240 pages to write) and the pages measure 5 inches by 7 1/8 inches. The paper is thick, ivory-colored and lined. I compared the lines to a college-rule notebook I have and they are very similar in size. There is also a black ribbon to hold your place as well as an elastic band to hold it closed. I didn't save the packaging and I'm not sure where this journal is made.I love this journal! It is the perfect size for sticking in my purse if I want. The pages are thick enough that my pens don't bleed through and the pages don't easily tear. I've used pencils, ballpoint pens, and gel pens on this paper and they all work great. The journal lays fairly flat when writing, except for the first and last pages. The paper is smooth and I enjoy writing in this journal!There are so many uses for this journal and I feel it would appeal to many people. I love the fact that there is a wide variety of colors and designs available by the same company so you can choose one to suit your interests. I've already seen two others by the same company that I like and will have to get at some point! I'm also planning to get one for a friend as a gift who loves to journal as well. If you are looking for a journal for journaling, lists, food diaries, taking notes for work, or anything else where a journal is useful, I recommend this one. The quality is good, the price is just what I wanted to pay, and I will be back for more of these when I need them!

I've had this journal for about two months, and this is my overall impression:This journal is an absolute joy to write in. Unlike other new journals, there is NO SMELL. I repeat, NO SMELL. The black cover is soft to the touch and can easily be customized by drawing, though, as a very picky personal preference, I kinda wish that there were no scored lines, as the cause my gel pen ink to bleed due to retention. The elastic is very useful, even though the journal sits closed, and leaves an almost unnoticeable indentation on the cover.The ribbon is very nice, though slightly creased upon delivery, and a bit longer than what I'm used to; that again is fine. It marks pages without destroying and loosening the stitched binding.As for the pages, I haven't tried them out with pen due to my tendency to make mistakes. However, they hold graphite really well and don't carry over smudges when you turn the page and write on the other side. The pages themselves are slightly cream-colored, which is reminiscent of antique (but not old!) paper, and have about twenty-three lines each. Due to their binding, the pages appear slightly uneven about the edges and don't exactly sit within the cover. This may be a concern for some, but I like it the way it is. Somehow, just a little tweaking makes the journal seem a little more personal than machine-manufactured.Red Co. makes really, really nice journals that you WILL want to write in. Before I got this journal, I HATED writing journal entries. But this journal, which I found after several hours of searching, really wants to be written in. It's really easy to write in. And if you give it a name (I gave mine one!) and write each entry as letters to the journal, it's even more enjoyable. Highly recommend to any kid, teen, or adult who wants a journal, and I look forward to trying out other Red Co. products.I'm planning to test out watercolor pencils on the paper, so I may post an update based off how well that works out.

I love this little journal!! I was actually shopping for a new journal for my younger sister and came across this..I just couldn’t pass it up. I love octopus and the color was perfect. It is not as bright as it looks in the picture, but more of a dull teal (which still looks awesome). It has an elastic strap to hold it closed, and a ribbon attached to mark the current page. It is a perfect size to keep in my purse. The octopus is almost like an indent on the front. The cover is textured lightly like a canvas feel and the indented design is smooth. It looks great and I have had a couple compliments on it recently.Packaging: My item was shipped right away, and I received prompt notification. The cover for this notebook is very sturdy and the image of the bee is a lot more beautiful and noticeable than the pictures online imply. It also easily lays flat when opened, and the paper is nice and smooth for writing. The elastic band for keeping it closed and the ribbon for marking your spot are well constructed and positioned. My only complaint is that the inside cover doesn't lay 100% flat when opened up; there's a small gap at the binding. Otherwise this is a beautiful and functional notebook and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

This journal has managed to survive with me through hell, and is the only one I've ever managed to keep that has remained in tact. I carry it with me everywhere.
