An intimate look into a pool legend
Mark has opened a window into an era of pool that has become extinct. His close ties to some of pools legenadary hustlers and road men is handled in a very readable and entertaining way. He doesnt compel himself to a chronological time line, but rather tells the stories in a more sensible order that somehow ends up making a better book than a simple time line. This is a must read for any pool enthusiast. If you enjoyed fictional accounts like the Hustler and The Color of Money, treat yourself to a real account of that genre by someone who stood in the middle of the real deal.Thank you Mark. You produced a classic.

Fascinating read
Accurate and colorful tale of the pocket billiard and gambling world during the last quarter of the 20th century. The central figure was one of the most talented and charismatic pool players in history. This book has numerous entertaining anecdotes about situations that, hard to believe, are true....or as close to truth as memory allows. All in all, very well written, never dull, and a super story of a true legend....St. Louie Louie.....RIP...

Excellent, Insightful, and Funny
Although the backdrop of the manuscript chronicles the life and times of St. Louie Louie, there are numerous anecdotes about various pool rooms; eccentric “scuffs,” gamblers, and “sweators” (ah, the good ole’ days before casinos killed the “action”…); along with players ranging from “bangers” to “short stops” to professionals. An enjoyable read that is a must own for those with a billiard related library. Very well done.

Entertaining Accounts of the St. Louis Pool Scene
This book is a first hand description of the St. Louis pool scene from 1960 to 1990. It is centered around "St. Louie" Louie Roberts who was one of the best and most colorful pool players of his era. Lots of hilarious anecdotal accounts involving the pool rooms of St. Louis and the characters who frequented them. A really fun read.

Took me back to the good old days
What a great book, well written, short stories, very interesting. If you play pool you will definitely enjoy reading this book. If you are from St Louis or nearby and frequent any of the rooms mentioned you will know or heard off some of the characters. Only wish it was more stories. It was hard to put down. Hope there is another book in the future

Not enough about Louie
I liked the book, a lot of interesting characters and funny at times. I was expecting the life story of Louie Roberts, but found it to as much about the author as Louie. Louie was referenced frequently throughout the book, but only as an introduction to another character, story or road trip. The title is somewhat misleading.Terry
