CM MK730

A high quality keyboard with odd design quarks.
If you want to know how good the RGB lighting is or whether Cherry MX switches are "worth it" this isn't the review for you. Cherry MX switches are, supposedly, the highest quality switches out there and I've seen little argument to go against that. I'm just going to trust what other tech enthusiasts already praise.PROS:High quality - I wanted an aluminum body to avoid keyboard flex, and this has none - to be expected. Cherry MX switches feel fine, I haven't purchased too many mechanical keyboards to draw comparisons, but most people online trust their quality and durability. This looks and feels expensive because it is.Well thought out - The included, magnetic wrist wrest was a huge selling point for me. Wrist rests, in general, are underrated in gaming, and although wrist rests do exist, they're usually cheap, third-party add-ons versus an actual design choice. The key placement seems evenly spaced and not cramped; this is a true TKL. There are kickstands to raise the keyboard, which might be a big deal to some. Lastly, I appreciate that the keycap designs don't have "gamer" text and, with RGB off, can come off as a high-end, regular keyboard for everyday use.CONS:USB-C input is garbage - The included braided cable is an excellent addition and would have been a pro if it didn't take 15 minutes for the keyboard to turn on during setup. The issue was that the USB-C cable kept sliding from its input. I had to cram it in before the keyboard turned on. I'm already afraid that the keyboard wire drag (I came from using, almost exclusively, wireless keyboards) will pop the cable out in the middle of a gaming session. Not a fan.Weak magnets - The magnetic wrist rest is an excellent addition, but the magnetism is so weak that it’s almost pointless. It's just barely strong enough to create a stable hold. If I adjust the placement of the keyboard in the slightest, the wrist rest pops right off. How hard is it to include stronger magnets?Unnecessary lighting - These light bars people keep complaining about; I'm also not a fan of this “feature.” As I began this review, don't expect RGB lighting critiques. Maybe it's because I'm a minimalist, but there's no need for all the light bars on the sides of the keyboard, I'm not sure what it adds, and it makes me wish they weren't there or to cover them up entirely. Conclusion:Red switches? - I'm mixed on red switches in general. This is not a criticism against the keyboard but more personal preference. Please keep in mind that, at least with red switches, you won't get any obvious input feedback as you would brown or blue switches. Blues are obnoxiously loud to type on, but you can't beat how intense the feedback is; not only can I hear the keyboard clicks on blues but can feel it when wearing my noise-canceling headset. It's oddly satisfying, and I rarely bottom out on blues.Would I recommend this keyboard? Yes, in the ideal environment. With this price tag, you should know what switches to choose, have tight control around your RGB light settings, be neutral on whether you want an attachable wrist rest and get a wire bungee to give slack to the included USB-C cable. At that point, this is a 5-star keyboard. FYI, I typed this review on this keyboard.
