Courageously Intimate.
I was in the process of moving when I first sat down with this book. Exhuasted and busy, I didn't expect to make it far past the first chapter. I finished it in less than twenty-four hours. I found myself sneaking away to whatever hidden place I could find to devour another sentence, another paragraph, whatever I could read in precious stolen moments. I felt as if I was reading a letter written by someone who somehow knew me well enough to excavate the long buried yearnings of my heart. William Kautz has created something very rare and beautiful in his work. Exhibiting courageous vunlerability and breathtaking honesty, he's written a letter that speaks to that deepest yearning in each of us. He presents to us a God real and beautiful enough to shatter both the claims of the sceptics that He is powerless, and the even more damaging cliches of the church that paint Him as safe. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has seen enough of life's ugliness that nice cliches will no longer do. In Winter's Grace, William Kautz points the thirsty soul to the well. He invites each of us to go to Christ and drink deeply.

William Katz will touch your soul and your heart.
William Katz will reach out to you and you will be like, how did you know? He will touch your heart, your soul, and you’ll be like, okay, i can do this. I’m not alone. My heart is broken but, I can carry on. Light, love, and peace.

Death is a Given
Modern medicine gives us a false sense of perpetuity. Prior generations were more attuned to finality. Will lost his son as a result of an accident; I lost my son after he survived battle zones where he had stoically saluted too many fallen soldiers, in their caskets, in Afghanistan. My son wrote that their parents would hurt until they, too, occupied their own coffins. The author examines this interim period of parental anguish with a profound insight into the depths of our souls.

An Extraordinary Gem
Will Kautz's book, Winter's Grace, is an elegant and thought-provoking masterpiece. Inspired by the loss of his son in a skiing accident, Kautz confronts the big questions of life: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? His insights are clear, relatable and profound. A gifted writer, Kautz uses poignant, often highly personal stories to illustrate the connection between pain and purpose, anguish and intimacy, failure and grace. I found myself welling up with tears as I read many sections of Kautz's book, not because my emotions had been manipulated, but because the author addresses the real and sometimes perplexing issues ALL of us face with such humility, transparency and wisdom. This is a book you will want to share with many, many others. I strongly recommend it!

Brilliant Reflections on the Process of Grieving, Lament, & Healing
W.K Kautz has given his readers a gift. It is the gift of his story; one of brutal loss through death. It is also a story of lament & ultimately a healing that has no easy answers. This is a book for those who scream out to the night sky, "Why? Why now? Are you even there?" Winter's Grace does not offer simplistic notions about the grieving process nor facile equations for healing in the midst of grief. Rather it offers itself as a trusted companion on the hellish terrain of suffering that we all face in this life-time. Take and read-and know you are not alone.

Wow! What a blessing having read this true story. I was moved deeply. A sparkling and crystal clear example of how God uses every experience to bless us even if we cannot see it while we are experiencing the anguish in the moments that it is happening. How precious a gift to his son Justin that his father exposes vulnerability and intimacy to honor his sons life so that it continues as a blessing and a light to all that read the story, amazing!

Touched by Grace
In a world teeming with heartache, "Winter's Grace" gives us reason to hope, to look beyond our own pain and find a source of comfort far beyond our imaginings. I read this book in one sitting. For someone questioning the existence of a loving God, this book caught me hanging by a thread and looking to tie a knot by which to hang on. Personal vignettes simply interwoven with profound wisdom make this a must read for anyone seeking a loving relationship with our Creator.
