Hangs entire system
Immediately upon connection, this drive spread files over my mac and hung the system. System performance was abysmal and it took me about 3hrs to find all the files and remove them. Avoid

Sentry Safe USB Hard Drive
Bought this to use as a network backup drive in a small office. Although it is USB only I also bought a Netgear DGN220 ADSL Router whuch has a USB port to connect it to so all the PC's on the network can use it. After a few days kept getting I/O errors and windows kept loosing the drive. This backup drive is NOT compatible with Netgear USB kit.It looks very cool and robust and is silent in operation apart from very faint clicks from the drive as it searches for data. A single blue led is lit whenever it is powered up.The hard drive only spins at 5400RPM, has an 8Mb cache, Seek time 9.0ms, transfer rate up to 480Mb/s so its not the fastest drive but its ok for me.Only had a quick look at the instructions but it looks like you can pasword protect the drive and / or encrypt and password protect folders. If you just want to use it without protection it is plug and play out of the box, no need to run the CD software.Because of its power requirements there are two USB cables one marked Data & Power, the other marked Power These both have to be connected to USB ports. If you only have one spare port buy a powered USB hub (Belkin are inexpensive and reliable) or alternatively plug the Data/Power lead into the PC or Router and plug the lead marked Power into a USB phone charger or similar 5volt supply.I have found if you unplug the drive from your PC/Router it doesnt always register when you plug it back in again unless you unplug both usb leads when you unplug it.
