Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank 1979–98 (New Vanguard)

Great book for basic information on this MBT
Great book for basic information on this MBT. Was interested in getting some background because of my war gaming hobby and finding that my T-72s will be facing these on the table top. Though I cannot draw a comparison to another reference I found this enlightening regarding the development and armament of this combat tank in a conveniently sized volume. Some nice photos are included, though I would have appreciated more color to aid me in painting some of these should I add this model to my collection.

eBooks need redesigning to make the most of the medium.
Vanguard need to wake up to the fact that people are reading these books as eBooks. The large exploded color diagrams that feature in all of these books are impossible to read/navigate in eBook book form so totally useless in their current form.

Another great book in the New Vanguard series
While many people will complain that the book is not technical enough, or doesn't have enough color pictures, I feel it provides an excellent overview of the Leopard 2. While more comprehensive books are available, this volume provides a concise summary of the design, development, and use of the tank as well as details of versions sold to other countries. Fans of the M-1 Abrams will be discouraged to note that the Leopard 2 beat the M-1 in several direct competitions. The Germans still know how to build great tanks.

Good for whats available
I have not yet seen a detailed book on the Leopard II (or LeoI for that matter), so in the meantime, this is about as good as you can get, covering a lot of territory in 48 pages. This is a good book, covers the background leading up to the Leo II, its main versions, good B&W photos. Its not perfect for modelers, but I'm not sure what else is out there that would satisfy the requirement for lots of photos from many angles. The color plate drawings are informative and do show different markings used on the several versions, camoflague schemes. What I did not like about this book was the cut away drawing. The centerfold interrupts some of the details, and the overall drawing lacks detail. Having been inside of a Leo II, I would really like to see interior shots as some books show of the M-1 gunners station, TC station, loader's station.Overall, I would recommend this book.
