New 1940s style mascara tin for the win!
I’m posting this review of my own volition and bought all products with my own money. I’m just a big Besame fan!I’ve been using Besame products for about 5 years now. So if you need some tips and ticks read to the end. Photo is obviously a pic from me using this product for over two weeks so I can give a clear review. The good: This new tin is amazing! I love the new brush style and that the cake is firmly in place. It makes it way easier to scrub the pan to create a paste. The wand comes with both a mascara brush and a pointed eyeliner brush. The engraving gives you some texture which makes it easier to make your paste than the original square cake. If you are worried you are getting less product for a fancier tin, after comparing the two I think they are fairly close to the same size, just the new one is elongated so it looks smaller. Product has the same texture as a normal, non waterproof mascara when dried down. Very long lasting. Does come off with water and a light scrub. I have a lash lift and this product is gentle enough not to make my permed lashes not fall out and gives them a beautiful thick black color. Overall, I prefer this new style and have my fingers crossed for a brown cake to come out in the future. The bad: I ordered 2 tins and one came with a crack over the B in Besame, second one which was perfect (in photo) cracked in the same spot after use. I’m assuming it his is where the glue is laid to keep the product in place. I’m interested in getting to the bottom of the pan to investigate. I have to assume they used too much glue and it created a pressure point. The wand is great but I have to bend it to reach the pan. If I don’t bend it, I use the tip to apply the product and the length to spread it around. This product does not give you much volume, if you have straight lashes it will not give you a lift at all. It is also not waterproof, if you have light allergies and water a little I wouldn’t worry. But if you full out cry get ready for some dramatic black tears. As far as the eyeliner use. I have not mastered it quite yet. If I create a thick paste it is dark and with thick lines. If I try for a thinner line I get a 90s grunge watercolor vibe. I would personally stick to my liquid eyeliner for the sharpness but that’s just personal preference.Overall this product is a great on-the-go tin!• I love how gentle it is for my permed lashes• I love how convenient the wand is and how everything is secure in the tin• This product lasts me all year.*as long as I leave the tin open to dry to combat mold growth, however I have never had mold growth personally with either tin. I assume because I leave it open to dry every time.GOODLUCK MY FELLOW VINTAGE GALS!Don’t give up just because the process is different!Like any makeup product, it takes practice ♥️and with how long this product lasts and the wear quality, I promise it’s worth your money!

Cake mascara has a long shelf life
I am old enough to remember when cake mascara was widely available and I knew how to use it. Since during the pandemic, I am not wearing makeup as frequently, I looked for cake mascara because it has a much longer shelf life than the usual tube of mascara. 2 years for Besame's product. That made more sense than my using a tube of mascara maybe once a week and feeling like it should be discarded after a few months. There are very few cake mascaras around any more -- for good reason! The usual tubes of mascara, whether expensive or not, are much easier to apply, much faster to apply and generally have a greater impact. Cake mascara darkens your lashes, but it doesn't have the ingredients that add volume and length.A very good thing though about this mascara is that with one product you can line your eyes, darken your lashes and your brows. That makes up for the longer time it takes to apply 2 to 3 coats of the mascara allowing dry time in between coats. (It does take 2 to 3 coats to get much impact.)I bought the refill as I had a case I thought the refill cake would fit into (it did) and I did not need the teensy brush the regular set comes with. An angle liner brush (Elf) works really well to get some liner into the base of your lashes. The same brush also works well to darken your brows. I have used an older cake mascara brush that I already had as well, as a clean small typical mascara brush to apply the mascara. The mascara product itself is better than the old cake mascara I remember using. It's quite good! Dampen the brush, shake off any excess and run the brush over the cakes in circles or back and forth until the brush ends are coated with a paste-like consistency of mascara. Be sure to get the product deep into the base of the lashes and draw the brush up and out. Let dry and repeat for more impact. When life returns to "normal," I will keep this product on hand for days when I want just a touch of improvement for my eyes! For one bonus reason: it's easy to wash this product off. It does not need a special eye makeup remover.Last note, I usually wear this mascara primarily on my upper lashes. Any moisture or oils that gets under my eyes are likely to cause some smudges.

Learning curve but worth it!
I bought this mascara to cut down on the amount of plastic our cosmetics come in. Mascara is one of those things you replace every month or so and their containers are not recycled. These days only Plastic "1" and "2" stand a chance of actually being recycled. Everything else...plastics 3,4,5 and 7 are added to landfill. Sad face. There was a leaning curve! But it works as well or better than my previous mascaras. It gives you black, clump free lashes that do not flake over the course of the day. It comes off with soap and water. I did not need eye makeup remover. I gave it 4 stars because it's not quite as "fast" to put on which can make a difference to early morning, get to work, routines. My hints...which may or may not help you.Make sure the product is really "thick" before you start putting in on. Too watery and you've got a mess. I typically do not rinse the brush after each use. I wet the "caked" brush and then add it to the mascara block and start mixing. The caked on the brush mascara softens, and helps the "new" mascara set up. Then it's a matter of brushing on layers till you get the look you like. It's not clumpy so you can really layer up. It just takes patience and more than a few swipes. I had trouble with the enclosed brush at first. But practice makes perfect. Don't give up! It's worth it. You'll look pretty and think how many plastic tubes of mascara you'll keep out of the environment.
