Classics of British Literature

I have read some of John Sutherland's books on various aspects of literature so I was pleased to come across this series of lectures. Sutherland is a good speaker and makes everything interesting. If you want a survey of the 'greats' of British literature then this one is excellent. It is equally good if you just want to renew your acquaintance with the classics of British literature.The lectures cover both prose and poetry and I found myself becoming interesting in authors such as Chaucer who I have never considered reading before. It also revived my interest in Shakespeare. Some of the other works covered are George Eliot's Middlemarch, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey, Mrs Gaskell's Mary Barton, Charles Dickens' Dombey and Son and Oliver Twist as well as the originator of the novel - Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe.There are forty eight half hour lectures included in this download as well as PDF reference material to download if you wish though you can just listen to the audio version. If you want a survey of the classics of British Literature this provides one and it is entertaining as well.

Funny and interesting course. English is my second language and I really enjoy to deepen my knowledge about British Literature.
