"There can be no biography of him. Facts are few, stories many. He seems to have been known by different names in many parts of India, appearing and disappearing through the years. His western devotees of recent years knew him as 'Neem Karoli Baba,' but mostly as 'Maharajii'--a nickname so commonplace in India that one can often hear a tea vendor addressed thus. Just as he said, he was 'Nobody.' He gave no discourses; the briefest, simplest stories were his teachings. Usually he sat or lay on a wooden bench wrapped in a plaid blanket while a few devotees sat around him. Visitors came and went; they were given food, a few words, a nod, a slap on the head or back, and they were sent away. There was gossip and laughter for he loved to joke. Orders for running the ashram were given, usually in a piercing yell across the compound. Sometimes he sat in silence, absorbed in another world to which we could not follow, but bliss and peace poured down on us. Both books are well worth reading as is the CD by Krishna Dass, Greatest hits of the Kali Yuga, worth listening to where he has a conversation with Ram Dass about being lost in love. They joke about how their guru has kept them on so that they can continue his work in with West. How to define a miracle?
I am having a great time reading the stories collected by Ram Dass about Neem Karoli Baba. I am a student of Vortex Healing which was founded by Ric Weinman who was also a follower of this guru and who regards the work as his seva for Neem Karoli Baba. Ric's book Awakening Through The Veils, A Seeker's Guide, takes the reader, step by step through the mysterious process of awakening. What comes through to Vortex Healing is the great unconditional love from Maharajii: a combination of energy and consciousness which is trully transformative. Both books are well worth reading as is the CD by Krishna Dass, Greatest hits of the Kali Yuga, worth listening to where he has a conversation with Ram Dass about being lost in love. They joke about how their guru has kept them on so that they can continue his work in with West.

Can't put the Miracle of Love down
This is one of the books you just want to continue reading. Great inspiring stories about Neem Karoli Baba, and different aspects of life that truly require our attention and consideration. Made me want to go back to India, and visit the ashram in Kainchi. Highly recommend.

Reading softened my heart
Reading this book feels like a process you go through. I couldnt stop coming back to it. Maharajji was an extraordinary being who defies the mind. Once you feel that you've grasped something, you still get thrown into disbelief. Its hard to wrap your head around Neem Karoli Baba, so i thinks it's best to just let him work through your heart, however that happens.

wonderful book
Memories of Ram Dassโ guru, Neem Karoli Baba who was a great saint and Holy man. The material is gathered from many sources from his devotees and is a source of wonder and delight. So much wisdom here, it is a book I treasure.

A saint i never got to meet
A brilliant book. Writen by those who knew him and put together by Ram Dass, i didnt want to finish it, but when the guru passed away, i felt like i knew him. I cried. A true guru I never thought I have in my life. Im glad i had the chance to meet him through others. Thank you. Xx

Maharaji
An incredibly beautiful book, I've read many books on Maharaji all of which were great by this one was for me the best. An extra magical element is very much present, Ram Dass once said to a lady who appreciated the book that it was his best....

This book is irreplaceable for those truly interested in learning about the teachings of this great being. Itโs all here, all the contradictions, the love, the rascality, the transcendence, the entertainment, all of it serves to break down our firm grasp on what we think we know and leave empty, to be filled with love and truth and compassion.
