This is a useful monograph on the American figurative artist Daniel E. Greene; a well-presented hardback book, it's a pleasure to look through.Greene is, at first appearance rather a mainstream painter, though his later work has a strong narrative content; working primarily in oils and pastel, the book showcases all periods of his career and it is illustrated with more than 200 full-colour plates of his work.Do not be swayed by an American reviewer concerning the sharpness of the images – Greene occasionally uses soft focus techniques – the give-away is that his signatures are bang in focus, the quality of the reproduction in this volume is actually of a very high standard.A lovely book dedicated to an imaginative modern painter with a prodigious technical ability, an eye for arresting imagery and thoughtful, inventive composition.
