.com Flowers, Bananas & More--so titled, presumably, because Flowers, Bananas & Hair sounds kind of yucky--culls everybody's favorite 3-year-old monster's investigations of those things in a 50-minute tape. The Flowers episode cuts away from Elmo's crayon-filled playroom to follow a real, live boy in his quest to grow a plant. Through Elmo's lively voiceover, we learn that by filling a glass with a paper towel, a bean, and some water you can grow a bean pod, which is just what Elmo does, along with interviewing a friendly cactus and showing us a homemade video of Stinky the Plant, back in his world. In Bananas Mr. Noodle's usual bumbling with the object in question (Is it a telephone? A horn? A pen?) is a barrel of laughs, and we meet Top Banana, a spectacles- and bow tie-clad chap who brings his breed's health benefits to light. Hair, the final segment, is especially enlightening because every manner of the curious stuff shows up for a brief but thoughtful examination. By tuning us in to the Hair Channel, which is featuring a cartoon called "The Kingdom Where Everybody Wore His Hair the Same Way," Elmo leads us to the truth about hair: kinky or straight, short or long, everybody's got it, and what a person chooses to do with it doesn't count for much. Though it's bound to be a repeat for most kids, this is a tape that'll grow on budding botanists, stylists, and Elmo groupies in general. (Ages 3 to 7.) --Tammy La Gorce From the Back Cover Join Sesame Street's curious red monster as he explores flowers, bananas and hair! Elmo's World offers kids and adults a fresh and light-hearted take on the world around them. Each episode comes to life in Elmo's bright, exciting and very original room -- the drawer, shade and TV all join in the fun. And he's even visited by a muppet banana and a talking cactus! Also featuring Elmo's pet goldfish, Dorothy, the zany Mr. Noodle and classic songs that will delight viewers of all ages.

the banana skit makes it (thank you!)
Although overall I find the Elmo videos much more annoying than, say, Teletubbies, there are some genuinely intriguing moments here. The emergence of the new Mr. Noodle, Mr. Noodle's brother, is welcome if a little disturbing (why another Mr. Noodle? is there a succession in the works?), as the original Mr. Noodle is at best aloof. There is still the annoying tendency to turn to TV for answers to Elmo's rather mundane questions ("Where can Elmo learn more?"), and CTW's ideology of "making things relevant for kids" by simulating TV conventions ("The Music Channel" et al) begs the question of whether they are really simply inflicting television-centric mores and expectations on unconditioned kids. The gem of the video is the "Top Banana" skit. In a nod to the early vaudevillian genius of Jerry Lewis and George Burns, the slow burn of repeated "Thank you" rimshots (even Elmo gets into the act) is genuinely funny, unlike the tired visits from the wishfully-Simpsonesque Old MacDonald or Accordion Man.Given my dauther's love of Elmo, however, this is a must-have.

A super- funny romp with Elmo!
I bought this video almost a year ago and my daughter still watches it once a day. It is cute (we love the parts with Mr. Noodle, because he is so funny) and educational in it's own silly way. I do have to have bananas on hand when she's watching this video though, because as soon as the banana part comes on, she wants one (and she knows how to peel it now, thanks to this video). A must-have for Elmo fans (as are all the Elmo's World videos) this one is played in our house often.

ELMO'S WORLD!
After seeing these episodes of "Elmo's World" on Sesame Street numerous times....I knew that I had to purchase this tape. It is amazing how my son will drop everything he is doing just to see Elmo. I love how the writers of the "Elmo's World" series use Elmo to teach children my son's age (2 yrs) how to share, about babies & fruit. I recommend Elmo & the rest of the Sesame Street Collection to all parents with young children. I also recommend "Elmo's Adventures in Grouchland".
