Works with Apple 30-Inch Cinema Display / Apple adapter and Caldigit Dock With MacMini M4Pro
I have tried a number of possible solutions to use an Apple 30-inch Cinema Display with a MacMini M4Pro. One option is a USB-C to DVI-D adapter but hardware control of brightness is not possible. But given I have a Caldigit Thunderbolt 4 dock purchased from the Apple Store that provide a DisplayPort output, I'm able to adapt the DisplayPort output to mini DisplayPort and use an Apple mini DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter. And that combination supports hardware brightness on the 30-inch Apple display.Note I'm still forced to use a third party software application such as MonitorControl to enable the keyboard monitor brightness controls, but I am able to confirm that hardware control is working given power draw of the Apple display.Of note, MonitorControl and friends permit controlling of the display brightness by simply scaling the brightness of the data going to the display but the backlight is not controlled in this case. Longevity and in fact power consumption is a factor if you jack up the backlight to max only to dim via scaling the data going to each pixel. Thus the right answer is to dim the backlight via hardware control.

Good until it isn't
I have three of these. One had an issue out of the box, and took some wrestling for the mini DP port to connect. Then after a year, either the same one or a different one had a bad connection and I can no longer use it. To be honest it is better to avoid using DP adapters unless you really need to.

Works at expected
Perfect. I need to occasionally swap 3 laptops between 2 monitors, and 2 of those laptops have DP only or Mini-DP / HDMI output. 1 of those monitors is auto-sensing input, the other is hard-selected. It's a pain-in-the-butt to have to swap video cables and fuss around in awkward positions to insert cables when I'm swapping devices around. This adapter has effectively eliminated the cable gymnastics of an awkward install setup, so all I need to do is plug this in, between an existing cable and the moved laptop, to simplify certain hardware swaps.I know.. I know.. it doesn't sound that complicated when you read it - how hard is it to move a laptop/s between monitors? But trust me.. "standards" still aren't standardized nearly enough. It's a cheap and effective cable that will save you frustrations.I'm way too old to both with computer frustrations. We should have Star Trek pads and BttF Hoverboards by now!
