Thought was getting more
While a good cooler, I thought I was getting a pack of them—not just one. A bit pricey for just one and could have purchased a standard cooler for the price.

Good but top didn’t fit properly
Cooler top had to be cut to fit properly. It wasn’t closing the way it was sent.

A clever idea for a cooler and I don't see the great difficulties that some claim
I am trying to do away with as much plastic in my life as possible, so I was very happy to find this Igloo cooler made from recyclable paper. After reading through other reviews of this cooler, I thought I'd make a couple of comments. First of all, there is nothing in the listing that would lead one to believe they were getting more than one cooler. The price for this is fair at just under $10.Some reviewers complained about the fit of the lid. This thing is not made of rigid plastic that is made to be 'perfect' but compressed recycled paper. I think that some warpage is to be expected in the process. The lid I received also did not fit perfectly into the cooler at first. But with a just a very little work, I made it fit. I was able to wiggle mine in and get it to seat. Even were I to have needed to trim the edge a bit, it would not be some big deal. It's compressed paper and very easily trimmed if needed. The lip where the lid sits is wide enough to accommodate some difference in the fit without compromising the seal. I see no reason why that would ever be an issue unless someone trimmed off way too much of the edge of the lid. This is a good sturdy cooler, yet it's lightweight. It's 16 quart capacity holds plenty of drinks or picnic supplies. I haven't yet tested the claimed length of time it will hold ice, but it did keep my things plenty cold during a day out at the lake. I allowed it to dry afterward and am keeping it in the car to use for bringing home cold groceries until I go to the lake again.I like knowing it is much more environmentally friendly than foam-filled plastic coolers.I feel good about recommending this cooler if you would like something that is not contributing to the mountains of plastic waste in our world.

Biodegradable, overpriced cooler with distorted shape
This cooler is manufactured and marketed by Igloo (TX) as a green alternative to foam coolers. It is made of recycled paper that is made hydrophobic by introducing chemical additives in the pulp slurry (known as "internal sizing"), which in this case is an emulsion of alkyl ketene dimer. This chemical is not considered toxic based on studies on laboratory animals.Curiously, at the time of this writing, this webpage lists PU foam as the insulation material for the cooler, something which does not appear at all in the Igloo's dot-com 'igloocoolers' website. If that was not an error but, say, an addition to the hydrophobic paper, it would make the cooler much less eco-friendly, as the recycling of polyurethane poses economical competitive challenges. It is worth noting that in the Igloo's website, the cooler is sold for less than *half* the price Amazon is currently charging. The opening of the cooler I received was not a rectangle, but an out-of-kilter trapezoid with one bulging long side; this is shown In the left panel of my image. Unlike what is currently shown in the fifth image from the top of this webpage, the fresh-out-of-the-box lid did *not* fit the opening. When repeatedly pressed hard by hand along the edge, the material of the lid could be compacted and reshaped a bit till it became possible to close the cooler -- but this required the lid to be *upside down* (inset in my figure). It was not possible to close the box with the lid in its intended orientation, i.e., with the can holders and handle being available to the users, since two corners of the lid went beyond the cooler's opening (green circles in the right panel of my figure). The reshaping of the lid corners, so it could fit the opening, required rather patient trimming with a sharp utility knife. The remaining slight gap between the cooler's body and lid, due to the bulging of one side of the body, still reduced the duration of the cooling effect.--

Excellent cooler
We used this cooler in South Carolina when we found ourselves on the beach for a full, sunny, hot afternoon and wanted to take some beverages along. It held about 20 cans and a bunch of ice and kept everything cold and sand-free. It also did not allow the water from the melting ice to seep through. We didn't get the opportunity to reuse that cooler (couldn't take it home on the plane) but we're very excited to put this one to repeated use. Love that it's both compostable and recyclable. $9.99 is a competitive price.

Good value
This is a pretty interesting cooler. It's environmentally friendly and reusable. It keeps stuff cold and doesn't leak. It's much better for the environment then styrofoam! Good for Igloo for creating this earth friendly product. At Amazon's current price of under $10, it seems like a great value.Recommended...

Great eco alternative to foam coolers
The Igloo 16 Qt Eco-Friendly Recool Compostable Cooler is a fantastic alternative to the foam and styrofoam cooler. Living in California I would expect this cooler (or this type) to be mandatory in public use areas. It's on a couple of dollars more - but well worth doing our part for the environment! The lid was not a perfect fit when it arrived, however with some bending and twisting it now fits fine. I don't use ice in my coolers, but instead ice packs that can be refrozen (water is a hot commodity here in CA). This keeps the water saturation to a minimum when using and should help the cooler last for many uses. For $10 this is highly recommended!

Much better than styrofoam!
This cooler is such a great alternative to styrofoam coolers! It does not break into awful little pieces like styrofoam, and it is more durable.I’ve used it twice now, the ice doesn’t keep as well as a hard cooler but if you don’t let water sit in it you can definitely reuse. I think it has a few more uses in it though ot is starting to deteriorate a little bit.Overall I’m impressed!
