Complex Presents: Sneaker of the Year: The Best Since '85

I purchased this book based on the cover alone since there was never any examples of what the inside looked like. What a disappointment. Who the hell approved this book? The font is way to close to the edge of the paper and is awkwardly too big for the page. It feels like a school project that was rushed last second. 0/10.

Bought this on a whim and it's a must buy. Black, white and gold-foiled cover, check. Complex, check. A mix of history and beautiful photography/illustrations, check. And though I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore "sneakerhead", I can see how this would be a book that would be perfect for a friend of a family member who is... or really anyone like myself who is in search for their next coffee-table book.

If you have an extreme interest in sneakers and the history that has brought the sneaker world to where it is today, this is a fantastic read. Complex features some of the most educated and experienced people of the sneaker industry, allowing this book to have information that can’t be obtained elsewhere. This book will also make for a great display piece, as it features a nice cover with some reflective features.The font and pictures allow for a much easier and Interesting reading experience. Great work!

When it comes to sneakers and the critical storytelling that make them relevant in todays (and yesterdays) subcultures, look no further than Complex's Sneaker of the Year to understand why.The Complex team - particularly Joe, Brendan, and Welty (amongst many others) have a unique point of view that will further inspire your love and appreciation for kicks - whether you're a dedicated sneaker head, or someone who just appreciates a good story.

Great read overall, good variety of shoes, good variety of writers and styles. The only small two small complaints:1) was getting a few “repeated phrases” between authors reexplaining a few things.2) put real pics instead of cartoon on honorable mentions... I ended up googling photos for any of those I didn’t know cause the cartoon drawing wasn’t super helpful.

For those of us who appreciate the art of sneakers but can only dream of collecting grails this roadmap of sneaker history is a fulfilling comprehensive overview of the last 35 years of sneaker trends. Written with the deep dive into the who, what, why, when and how Complex writers are know for makes for an engaging and educational read.

My son is a contributing author to this book. It really is a great read and a number of friends have also purchased it and enjoyed it. Very informative if you love kicks.

I love this so much a really great book. Would defitnly recomend. I love learning all of the history and all the new facts. it is very well writen and put together. I also love all the illustrations. I am a big fan of all of complex's work.

A future discount bin book, this adds very little new to the realm of ( sneaker, trainer, runner, shoe) culture. It's poorly, if not lazily designed, with huge edge to edge font. A single sitting read, it's hard to see why it would be taken off the shelf more than once. The pictures are as uninspiring as the bland, poorly written text (unless you speak like a teenager, although you are an adult) . There are far better books out there, for better value than this one. The Air Max 95 gets a brief mention, which shows how much Americans really don't understand the European or Japanese interest in the culture. It's a little too American centric.EDIT: ditto what C. L. Miks has posted after me. Please guys, have a browse through some Rizzoli books, especially if you want to make that New York Times best seller list Brendan..

Disclaimer:I haven't read the book yet, but flipped through all the pages....... and I was frankly extremely disappointed.I really like the guys from FSR, but this book just looks like a sloppy money grab.As HAL already posted, the design is completely unspiring, from the photos to the page layout, the color blocking to the horrible font, that seems to bleed over the top of each page.Furthermore, this seems to be NIKE sponsored, since there is barely any other shoe brand.Brendan, Welty and Joe, I really like your shows a lot and they brought me back to sneakers, but you should't put your name on this.
