POCKETALKTwo-Way Voice Translator with 2-Year Built-in Data (White)

I have customers coming into Cultured Cowboy Western Store speaking languages which I do not. Customers always smile large when I bring out this translator to converse with them. I originally bought it to do Zoom Meetings with an Italian speaking peer. It does not function well over Zoom calls. Time lags, and other factors. Better in person as it was designed. It works more accurately if speaking a little slower than normal, in any language. Worth the investment.

The display interface is poorly designed, particularly for the other person who has to press the screen to switch to their language. Most of the screen space is used to make a language selection. So as soon as someone touches the wrong section of the screen, a confusing menu of languages comes up, and instantly they've selected some arbitrary language interested of simple being able to respond.The device dies in two days without charge.The international data doesn't work in most places.When there is Wi-Fi, you have to connect every time.When there is no internet connection, the unit is basically worthless.I thought this would be superior as it was a dedicated hardware device, I was wrong.There are better free options on Android and iOS.

I love this thing! I am studying Spanish and bought this so that I can converse with some of my co-workers who speak Spanish in order to feel what a conversation would be like. I tried it out on two of my Spanish speaking co-workers and then allowed them to speak back to me in Spanish. Everything went rather well! Then I tried it with a lady from Greece, and after that I tried it with a manager from India. All I got was good feedback! Then I started to interpret the signs inside of the company and listening to them in Spanish. I also took it back home and wrote something in script where it actually read what I wrote. I bought it as something to learn Spanish and also because I love technology. It comes with a 2 yr data plan and Wi-Fi. It has bluetooth that I believe is for connecting it with a Bluetooth speaker. So far I am impressed. Now for the 4 star rating. I bought a lanyard designed for this exact model and the string on the lanyard does NOT fit all the way into the hole that is on the Pocketalk S. I read somewhere that if you go to their Pocketalk site that they will tell me how to feed it all the way through. I went to the Pocketalk site and could not find that information ANYWHERE. So what’s the runaround? I seriously did not want to scratch a $300 case trying to fish a wire or a paper clip into a poorly designed lanyard hole to fish the lanyard through at risk of scratching my $300 case. Never heard of this in my life! Either send us something with the lanyard that you can fish the lanyard string through the hole without scratching the case or redesign the hole!Mark

I am a teacher and have 6 languages being spoken in my classroom. I first tested the PocketTalk with adults that were multilingual as well as testing it out with the school's Spanish teacher. They were amazed at how accurate it is. They said the accent and intonations are on point. I then used the PocketTalk with my students (Kindergarteners) and it worked amazingly well! Changing the language to be translated is very simple and quick. This item is very user friendly and effective! I used it for three days (6 hours each day) and did not need to charge it. I can easily place it in my pocket when not in use.

My boyfriend is a public service worker & they get a lot of different people from different backgrounds and will sometimes come in without anyone to translate for them. If they don't have someone who speaks the language in-office, they have to search for someone in a different office to do it for them and it can take a while to find someone (if they ever do). They're not allowed to have their cell phones out so this was perfect.The customers are always so ecstatic when they realize they're not going to have to struggle through a conversation to say what they need. And if they aren't able to be helped that day, they're not leaving confused and know exactly what they need to do or bring back.He brings this with him everywhere now just in case we meet someone who speaks Spanish (which happens a lot here in Los Angeles). And he's also able to communicate now with his step-dad's family from El Salvador.The camera is not the best quality, but it definitely works for what it needs to do. Love this product!

Talk about life savers! This translator was so useful to get through Japanese customs and getting a ride to my hotel that I don't think I would have "breezed" through the process without it. The camera auto focus feature needs improving as I am juggling the unit around so it would lock focus. The only other comment I now get from my new Japanese friends is that it's "so formal" when it comes to words and syntax it uses for everyday interaction and transactions, which they say makes me "sound like my grandfather." Well, I'm old enough to be one anyway.

Its wifi doesn't work in certain places. the screen is really small, hard to read if you take a picture of something. Your better off with your phone. Not worth the money......

Purchased in May for June trip. Worked fine with US wifi. Trip was a different story. Global sim did not work and seemed to interfere with wifi access. Emailed company and they said I could send it back for repair or replacement. Once I get back to States and emailed they said to send back to Amazon, but window for return was already closed. Don’t know what type of company this is but they do not stand by their products and this item in particular was a $270 waste of time and money. (Old iPhone 6 worked to translate with no problem). Bad product and worse customer service. Buyer beware!
