3-Point Products Oval-8 Finger Splints, Sizes 6, 7, 8, Pack of 3, Beige

I've worn this for a couple weeks now, after developing trigger thumb while helping to assemble a trampoline for my grandchildren. Since I would be immobilizing the distal joint for several weeks, I first tried a thumb brace that surrounded my hand with fabric and immobilized my thumb using an enclosed metal splint and Velcro straps. The brace worked very well, but quickly became dirty (very noticeable because I wrongly chose a pink color). It was also quite inconvenient. I am retired and spend a lot of time with gardening and backyard chicken keeping. Frequent handwashing is a must. I searched for a thumb stabilizer that could stay on during showering and hand washing. I found this, along with copycat versions. AIthough quite expensive, I chose the made in USA brand after reading many reviews. Here are a couple of good-to-knows I've learned. How you wear the brace depends on your condition. For trigger finger, the large oval is worn behind the joint that needs to be stablized. There is a video on the Amazon page for this product that describes an easy way to measure for the splint. I used that and ordered a set of 3 sizes to accommodate swelling. Unfortunately for me, my thumb size fell on 8. Ordering sizes 7/8/9 would have been optimal; however that choice was not available. I ordered 6/7/8, thinking that as swelling went down I could move to a smaller size. Each splint has a + sign that allows for a "half-size" vs full size, so I thought this would meet my needs. The company is not kidding when they indicate that the micro-swelling can result in an entirely different size. I found that I woke up every morning with a bit of swelling sufficient to cause the size 8 to be uncomfortable. I was relegated to the old cloth brace for a couple hours each morning. Eventually, I broke down and ordered the 9/10/11 splints. Size 9 is what I needed for morning. Size 8 works during the rest of the day. I wear the cloth brace at night for sleeping. When ordering, be careful to allow sizing for even minute swelling, which is likely why the company offers the varied sized packages. The splint does have a tendency to slip around when I work outside. I am careful to always wear a disposable glove on that hand to avoid accidental loss. The splint has fallen off twice while inside the house: once found inside my pocket when I had reached for a tissue and once under the comforter (lost while making the bed). Frantic searches resulted in successful location both times. I'm more careful now, but I did clip the end from an unused silicone toe protector to wear over the splint when I'm actively moving around inside with chores or crafts. This makes it less likely to slip off unnoticed, but still allows for getting my hands wet without removing the splint. The splint is, by its very definition, rigid. One of my sets is the beige color and one set is clear. Both are discreet when in use and I was not bothered that color choice was not an option when ordering from Amazon. If a specific color is important for you, ordering directly from the vendor is possible; however, a minimum is required to reach for free shipping. I did reorder and would definitely recommend this product. It does what it says it will do.

If you have trigger finger, YOU NEED THIS! Buy it! I wear the 12 and the 11, the 12 for when I'm more active to allow my finger to bend enough to complete simple daily tasks, I even use it when I play pool, works great! But what you really want to know is, does it help the condition, and the answer is yes! I was a week away from surgery when I found this and now I don't think I will need to get it, if you wear it most of the time, it WILL help alleviate the failure to open you finger, and reduces the inflammation on the knuckle joint. Mine was so bad it wouldn't open on its own and was very painful, but now it's as close to normal as I believe it can get and I'm happy for it. You can even wash your hands while wearing it! This is a truly awesome product and I'm grateful to have found it. I have medium sized hands to large, get the 10,11,12 set if you wear a large winter glove and these should fit you, assuming the finger you have the trigger finger in is your ring finger like mine, they are even reversible so you can wear it tighter or a bit looser depending on your activity, also if you have this condition, 1) stop using tools, i.e. Garden tools, hedge trimmers and all other tools that put pressure on the palm of the hands, that's is when mine emerged, after a long summer of yard work, just realize you have a condition now and hire someone to do the yard work from now on. and 2) try not to use hot water when washing your hands, these things are important because you need to rest your hand to give this product a chance to help you. In about a month, you should notice a big difference in the condition. On a side note, you probably have an autoimmune disease, that's what initially causes the tightness that allows the tendons and tissue to become tight and susceptible to being damaged by tools in the first place.

The hard plastic is smooth and does not dig into your skin or scratches it (when it’s not too tight). I measured my trigger thumb joint with a tailor’s measuring tape (and also with a dental floss) and the measurement corresponds to size 5 in the size chart. However, it is so small that it can’t even slip onto my thumb. I ended up with size 8 for comfortable wear and it does prevent the thumb joint from bending. Albeit size 8 does slip on occasion I think it’s more important not to restrict blood flow for prolonged wear. Size 7 fits snugly but it feels somewhat restrictive. Note that your fingers will expand and contract throughout the day depending on your environment, activities, physiological fluctuations, etc. so you might want to use 2 different sizes accordingly. The oval-8 splint is great to use when your hands will get wet or dirty. Its low profile will allow wearing cleaning gloves as usual. When there’s no need to handle water or dirt, I find wearing a sleeve created from elastic bandage wrap with a clip the most comfortable. The one in the image has about 3 layers and does prevent joint bending. You can adjust the tension to a custom fit and it also keeps your finger warm.

The price seems so high for little pieces of plastic, but they are worth every penny. I developed trigger thumb in both hands 3 months ago and used full splints, KT tape, wraps, and several topical anti-inflammatory creams, all with very little improvement. Ordered these Monday and they were at my doorstep Tuesday morning. My thumbs were swollen so at first I thought sizes 7 and 8 were a bit too small (my right thumb has an old joint injury so the knuckle is a bit thicker than the left), so I wore them turned to the side a bit and ordered a size 9... which I will be returning since the pain relief was so immediate that the swelling was gone by end of day, and I was able to turn them around to fit as intended. These completely immobilize the joint while allowing me to use my hands as I normally would. I love I can wash my hands, wash dishes etc. The only reason I gave them 4 stars for comfort is that the bottom edge on the size 8 hits right at the base of my thumb where the tendon still gets a bit sore and swollen by the end of the day. This is easily addressed with a little piece of KT tape wrapped around the edge of the splint. SIZE HELP: I am a woman with medium sized hands, thin but with thicker knuckles, and sizes 7 and 8 fit perfectly. Keep in mind the bigger sizes are not just wider at the joint but also longer - which is why the bigger size hits the base of my thumb. Still they work great - I would have saved myself so much money and pain had I found these sooner. Highly recommended!

Works okay for the joint, but the shape is problematic in that instead of lying flat-ish against the skin, it's curved inward so that the sharp edge instead of the flat side of the plastic is against the skin. Since it's intended to (and does) keep the joint under slight pressure, that sharp edge against the skin is under pressure, which is painful. Doesn't cut deep enough to draw blood in my case, so it's tolerable but wouldn't be safe to wear overnight. I would absolutely not put this on an elderly patient without close monitoring.

Just what was needed for my mallet finger! I measured per the recommendations and decided that one of these, 6/7/8 set would likely fit my injured finger. Sure enough, size seven was just right. It immobilized the DIP and still allowed me to move the middle joint, mostly. The mostly is where it gets interesting. While the movement allowed at the middle joint was enough, I have short fingers and play the guitar finger style and I did not want to irritate the skin that close to the middle joint. (YES! I can still finger pick while wearing this splint, a huge advantage over a stax, let alone a full finger splint which immobilizes the full finger.) It turns out there is a fix(instructions) to deal with my short fingers too! By reading the instructions on the their site, it is clear these splints are adjustable and though it is recommended this be left to a professional, instructions are provided and it is really quite straight forward as long as you have a suitable heat gun (which I do). The instructions are quite explicit and there was a specific recommendation for my case, short finger: Find the size that fits, then select one size smaller and adjust it to the right height and width. I took the size 6, also included in the set and carefully adjusted per the instruction and BINGO, perfect fit with plenty of clearance to provide no restriction at all to the middle joint while still keeping tip joint (DIP) fully immobilized and slightly hyperextended which is the recommended treatment for a mallet finger. To be clear, this is great but not magic. For a mallet finger you need to wear the splint for a long time, 3-4 weeks if the bone broke, or 6-8 weeks if just the tendon was injured as it was in my case. (Orthopedists indicate it takes 12 weeks for a tendon to heal, twice as long a bone fracture!) 8 weeks is a long time and wearing a splint that long is not the most comfortable thing. Even though this is better than most. It takes a while to get used to it. For me it took about a week and a half. It never gets completely comfortable, but it is certainly unobtrusive visually and a lot more comfortable than any other option I tried or have used in the past for other finger injuries. Where it gets most irritating is over the joint where the ring sits. The company recommends a small gel pad to prevent irritation, but what I found works even better is Dr. Scholl Moleskin! It is very soft, and available in different thicknesses. If you are a hiker or climber you may be familiar with this product as it is typically used to created a pad on a part of the foot the might be irritated by a rubbing shoe or boot. I used the thinnest version and cut a small strip to go over the joint under the ring on the splint. With this in place much of the time I hardly noticed I was wearing the splint and there was no irritation at all. The other big plus is it (the Oval 8 splint) is easy to keep clean, unlike other splints. It is also completely open so the finger gets plenty of air. Most other splint types enclose the finger, must be kept completely dry, and somehow still must be cleaned regularly to prevent your finger from smelling like a dirty foot. I hope some find this review useful or even helpful. I strongly recommend this splint for any of the various (and there are several) injuries it is intended to help. About the only thing it wouldn't be good for is where there is serious damage, crushing or laceration, to the tip of the finger which therefore needs to be protected from bumping; i.e., something better protected by a hard finger cot. full splint, or other hard fingertip protection device.

Was hesitant to purchase based on reviews about sizing and the steep cost for 3 pieces of plastic. I needed size 9/10 based on their size chart but 10, 11, 12 was the closest sizing available. They sent me 11, 12, 13 outside of original packaging so I’m assuming they’re used. Pass.

OMG! This splint is great. Its open design allows you almost full use of your injured finger. Allows you to wash your hands and not worry about getting your splinted finger wet. My finger was originally splinted at the doctors office the somewhat traditional method of a foam metal splint and tape. Bulky and you have to keep the area from getting wet. For mallet finger you need to keep the finer splinted 24/7 about 6 weeks at a minimum. Ugh...it was going to be a long six weeks. Found this splint online and after research, it looked far superior. Got the Oval 8 splint today and what a difference!!!! I can use my right hand again without almost any restrictions. Six weeks in this splint will be easy peasy, lemon squeezy!! Sizing is the key. Go to their website and download the paper sizing guide. My injury is on my right hand, so I measured my left. The guide put me at a size 6, so I could have ordered the pack with the size 6 - 8, or 4 - 6. I opted for the 4 - 6. 5 actually fit the best on my left hand, but the 6 fit perfectly on my right finger which is slightly swollen. I figure once the swelling goes down, I will probably switch to the 5. Fabulous product!!!

These splints have been very effective at treating trigger thumb and finger for both my husband and myself. I have been able to able to avoid cortisone treatments after just two weeks of use. After several physio appointments, and dry needling, the physiotherapist and I agreed to try splinting for my thumb. I am thrilled to say the trigging is gone. My husband is now using the splints for his finger and hopes to have the same results.

As described. But I can’t see how it can help my situation. Same thoughts by my consultant so I just returned the item. I measured and all but still was a size that was too small. Another reason of my return !

To measure the thumb joint, wrapped a 1/2" wide strip of paper around the joint marking the circumference with a pencil. The paper wrap was not very tight. Did this three times then took measurements with a ruler. With an average measurement of 2 12/16" ordered three splint sizes 10, 11 & 12 which cover a range of 2 11/16" - 2 15/16". Checked the fit of each splint both ways. The size 10 splint was too small. The size 11 splint fits but was found to be uncomfortable for long term use. The size 12 splint is the best fit, not too tight, allowing some movement but preventing the joint from clicking. I have no problem wearing the size 12 splint at night to prevent previous occurrences of the thumb joint locking in a bent position. Based on my experience care should be taken not to order a splint that will be too tight. The package of three sizes provides the best chance of getting a good fit.
