Superior for Wood Repair - JB Weld Wood Restorer
I just recently found this JB Weld Wood Restorer. Until now I'd been using Bondo, which worked well except you only have about 3 minutes to work it before it's too hard to tool. And Bondo is runny and falls out if you are working overhead on your eaves for example. So I asked Grok A I if there was something better than Bondo with a longer working time for termite and rot repair, and it identified this product. JB Weld Wood Restorer is so much easier to work with, and you have about 30 minutes to work the repair. It has a consistency similar to Play Dough and can be packed into the termite or rot damage, filling the termite galleys deeper than you can with Bondo. And it sticks to the wood without running out as you pack it. I didn't use the food service gloves included. Easier to just use your hands for mixing the two parts and working it into the damage. It cures "rock-hard" in a few hours and can be sanded easily with a power sander like my Bosch random orbital sander. Paint or stain when finished. Here are pictures of my ledger board repair. First picture shows the termite damage I dug-out of the bottom, second shows the cured JB Weld after sanding, final picture after painting. I also used the recommended wood hardener as a pre-treatment, and also foamed the entire board with Spectracide Termite Killing Foam, although I had no active termites because of previous treatments. I highly recommend this product for wood repair. I wish I'd known about it for other repairs I've done. From now on, this is my go-to for damaged wood.

Product lives up to a 5 star review
Purchased this product as wood had rotted out under the window adjacent to french doors and abutting concrete patio. Significant area to fill in between patio and window box (approx. 1 x .75 x 24 inches). Mixed a healthy amount (be sure and get extra rubber gloves as mix ony comes with 1 pair of light plastic) and it was very easy to mix (need hand strength to knead) and easy to roll out between hands to push into 'trough'. Filled in nicely. I had to change gloves out periodically to get a really smooth finish on it. WARNING: It does start to set within 15 minutes (starts getting hot) and after 30 minutes you can't really work with it anymore -- so work quickly. I got the trough done and it was easy to smooth with just fingers. Have not sanded and painted it yet, but it cured really hard and didn't pull away from the wood or from the cement patio, as advertised. There were nails under the window in the trough and we could not remove them, so this product was the perfect solution. It filled in around the nails and sealed to the wood and concrete. Photo to come. I would highly recommend this product. How much should you order? I used about a quarter of each of the 34 oz. buckets to fill in the trough measurements above. I initially mixed half of what was in each 34 oz. bucket, but ended up having to throw half of that mixture away as it wasn't needed (the extra in the bucket eventually cured rock hard too). Since you have to mix the two parts, I'm hoping that the extra in the tubs will store well for other jobs we may find. Clean up was easy as leftovers do turn rock hard -- so most of it is in a chunk. I used a white platic paint bucket and only had small patches that stuck (can scrub off with some elbow grease). It does readily stick to itself, so you can use some to clean up bits if it's still pliable. If you do use your hands, they will be very sticky and it will take you some scrubbing to get it off (I ran out of gloves to finish it, so used my bare hand -- it sticks to hands pretty well).

Works great
Works. Great. Kind of expensive

Great stuff - especially for the price
I honestly prefer the abatron product but it’s often twice the price. I used this product after soaking the rotted wood with abatron liqui-wood. Products appear to be compatible. I think the liquiwood or a similar product is essential to stabilize the surrounding wood. I used approximately two gallons of this stuff this summer to repair rot that was 3”-4” deep under some windows along front of my house. Alternative would have involved rebuilding 30’ of wood paneling and windows, so I’m glad this stuff exists. This jb weld product dries to be sandable overnight though sometimes I used a heat gun in the morning to complete the cure. Sanded surface was smooth, the material is extremely tough and primer went over it well. Much much faster than rebuilding with new wood. I let the material puff out of the hole slightly, then sand flush once it is cured. I used a 1/4 sheet detail sander and 120 grit paper to prep for primer. I wiped with anhydrous isopropyl before applying aqua lock acrylic primer, final coat was Benjamin Moore latex. Can’t tell repair occurred, the jb weld looks better than the cedar.

Excellent product
I bought a new house last year and discovered this year that someone did an awful patch job on the deck railing. It looks like someone dragged a hose over the top of the wood and, over time, it caused a gouge that's about three inches wide and almost 2 inches deep. Someone filled the gouge with that pink wood filler that's intended for much smaller repairs. They threw a coat of paint on it and that was it. Needless to say, the first time I looked at it sideways the filler fell out. Before I discovered this putty I contemplated how I was going to easily, and inexpensively, fix the railing. I could have replaced the entire piece of wood but that would mean knocking out all the spindles, replace a 12 foot piece of pressure treated 2x6, prime and paint the whole thing and put it all back together again. But then I found this. I've used J B Weld epoxy for years and had the utmost confidence that they were true to their word. They include a pair of plastic gloves with the product and a small plastic spreader. I used my own gloves but the spreader was useful. Mixing it was simple, equal parts from each bucket, mush them around in your hands for a bit to get a consistent color and it's ready to go. I used the spreader to pack it in tight and smooth it a bit. By the way, they suggest using a little bit of water to dampen the product to make it easier to spread - it's a good tip. It took longer than an hour before I felt confident enough in this to start sanding it but I laid it in pretty thick. I used an electric sander and it took some doing for a 60 grit sandpaper to do its job. Just for fun I rolled up some of this like a twig and let it harden. A few hours later it was hard and snapped just like a tree twig would. The only problems I had using this is that it wanted to stick to my gloves and it took some patience to get it to stay where I wanted it. But, I found that using a little bit of water helped and if I pressed the product in with my palm instead of my fingers I got better results. Before I painted my deck rail I hit the repaired area with a hammer a few times to test the adhesion because I didn't want to have to re-do this next year. No problems at all. It all blended in so well that you can't tell where I did the repair. I bought the large size for two reasons. First I have some superficial cracks on some of the floor joists on the deck that I'm planning on filling so water doesn't get in there. Second, just like my J B Weld epoxy, it's a nice product to have around. Also, if you look at the price per ounce of this putty the larger size makes more sense.

Not a fake review! Thick. Would use again.
WARNING - UPDATE 4/15/2017: I bought another box of this on Jet for using at my new house, and it was COUNTERFEIT. Not sealed, never hardened after use, and bright yellow color. If you have any problems with this awesome product, it might be fake! ORIGINAL - This is a real review- I did not get any discounts or anything. I searched for it out of the blue on my own. Used this to fix up some rotting wood sills outside after watching a YouTube video of the this is old house guy who said to use 'wood epoxy' . I couldn't find the brand he had so I chose this. Worked great. Is extra hard so if you're using push points to replace a glass window it's a little harder to get them in. The stuff is much thicker than wood filler, and thicker than the wood epoxy used in the YouTube videos.. It's more the consistency of regular J-B Weld. But you can put a little water on your fingers to help smooth it, and that worked really really well. I'm impressed. I think I actually prefer this to the runny stuff that wouldn't keep its shape - especially for huge gaps. It sands very nicely also. Would (update: actually did) buy again. The only downside is it's kind of expensive for doing large areas. PS I'm a girl that's not at all handy, and this was a fun project I could do on my own. Tips: It takes a while to mix it (kneed it), and it does get softer the more you kneed. Don't use it until it's a uniform color - I've read that's the most common mistake.

Short weight. Poor manufacturing control.
I received my Wood Restore and before opening it, I weighed the two containers. The amount in the sealed containers was far too little. The two containers appear to never have been opened. With today's computerized manufacturing, there is no excuse for this. Automated quality control should have rejected these containers before they were shipped. I weighed each container on an accurate postal scale. Part A, plastic tub container and contents weighed 23.2 oz. Part B, plastic tub container and contents weighed 18.9 oz. The total weight which I received was 42.1 oz. The combined product weight in the containers was labeled as weighing 64 oz. so the amount that I received was 21.9 oz. short. To use this product you must mix equal parts of A and B. If I empty all of container B, which is 18.9 oz. and mix it with 18.9 oz. of Part A then I will have a total of 37.8 oz. of usable epoxy. Instead of getting 64 oz. to use, I really received 37.8 oz. to use. To be accurate, I would need to exclude the weight of the plastic tub containers, which I cannot do without opening the tubs but what I got was even less than 37.8 oz. With only 37.8 oz. total epoxy, then 26.2 oz. are missing. At about $0.90 per ounce those missing ounces are worth $23.58 out of a $57.00 purchase price. I give thanks and credit to Amazon Customer Service who have arranged for a replacement product. Since I have not opened this product, I am giving this product a one star review based only on the low product weight and not on the quality of the product. I have used J-B Weld epoxies for most of my life and consider them top quality. In the future I plan to update this review after I use Wood Restore and let you know how well it performs.

A product with many applications
I really like this stuff. I have read reviews that struggle with mixing or applying this putty. I guess that I have a lot of practice and have used different versions of J-B Weld Epoxy and now I have needed the wood restore product to replace areas of wood in quite a few places in our home. When it sets - it is much firmer, denser, and sturdier than other wood putties because it is "Epoxy"! There are just a few tricks to its use. I use nitrile gloves to both mix it and apply for a small amount. If I need more, then I mix it in a container but the gloves are much easier. I use a putty knife to apply the putty to gaps in wood whether on a corner or on a flat surface. To make sure adhesion is occurring, it helps to really smash the putty against the surface being filled because it is dense but it will stick! If it doesn't pull off, then it has stuck. Usually it is possible to get the material somewhat close to the desired contour but it sands well if not. If the areas is quite large, then several layers will be beneficial. Then the material won't be setting with the result of fighting with it. The material adheres to itself as well as the wood. Once set, it can be drilled, sanded, painted. It will NOT rot! If you live in a humid climate and have to stay on top of exterior wood, this material is a huge help.
