This product was exactly as described. It held up flying kites off of the NJ shore in 15 mph winds with gusts +\- 5 mph. We attached this kite string reel to a high end kite that flew out over the beach and ocean. It was easy to reel in, held /locked the line in place, and was simple to hold for various hand sizes. Our six year old children and their friends were able to navigate using this product as well as several adults.We fly kites approximately 8-10 days a year and this particular reel made the kite flying experience more enjoyable. We are far from being professional kite fliers, but certainly have ample experience flying. I felt that the product was worth the price of the reel. The clip to attach to the kite was easy to depress and held up after multiple flights for over an hour each time. We strongly recommend this product for other kite flying families.

This is a great reel to use when flying your kite. It holds plenty of line and is super easy to let the line out and it is fast to reel it back in. The line is very strong and can handle a high wind. The handle is ergonomically designed to fit an adult hand so it is comfortable to hold for a very long time. There is a lock mechanism to lock the reel from moving. I currently have a mid sized kite that I fly on the Atlantic ocean beach in Maine and will buy a bigger kite soon and swap the reel between kites. There is a loop on the end of the string that makes it easy to clip onto your kite. If you are serious about kite flying and want a strong line and holder that is easy to use and tangle free, this is it!

The kite reel will only fit a child's or small adult's hand . Quality is only fair . Winding knob is small and held on by a piece of plastic . Can see why other customers have mentioned broken knob winder . I am an adult with extra large hands . I could only fit 3 of my 4 fingers into reel handle.Unable to use reel . I went out with a large kite (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B64NMGV/) on a day that turned way too windy very quickly. This thing stood up to a lot of punishment. It was really hauled on by the wind, spun way too fast several times (I bashed by hand with the handled a couple times when that happened, but that's more my fault than the winder's). It was even used to pull the kite out of the water from quite a distance. Twice.The string and winder both stood up to very strong winds which I was sure were going to break the kite. I would've had an even worse time if I'd been trying to use the little reel that came with the kite or something similar. The ability to lock the wheel was a lifesaver.I don't know much about kites or associated equipment, but I was pretty sure I was going to break this at one point and it stood up to the abuse. I wouldn't deliberately fly a kite in that kind of wind, so I think for what this is, it should be more than enough any normal use.

Looking for a kite line winder, I careful read lots of reviews to make sure it would fit my large, adult male hands. I bought this unit based on that criteria and wanting a strong kite string. It sat in my garage for almost a year before I could try to use it (thus the rust on the metal parts). The first time I used it, the thing worked great for about 30 minutes. I was thrilled. Then when I tried to wind the string in, the green handle broke off and the kite unreeled about half of the roll before falling down. As you can see, they engineered it to have a metal part inside the winder anticipating that it would need extra strength. Too bad the plastic that holds on to the metal part wasn't strong enough for the job. Without the knob to reel in string and lock the reel from unwinding, it's useless.Also, the included string frayed on the first use.

This kite reel is a POC! It is a terribly cheap rendition of the MUCH BETTER 9" Hengda reel at:  Hengda Kite Reel For Big Kites LED kites Professional Reel Winder with Strong Kevlar Line 9 inch Diameter with 1,000 FT-Yellow . This smaller blue version is made too small for adult hands - the grip piece is too thin and cuts into your hands while flying a kite. It has squared metal pieces that are right where your hand moves as you let the kite out or reel it in and I snagged my finger on them leaving a nasty scrape. The locking mechanism is fiddly to manage while flying your kite as well. On the plus side - it did allow us to reel in our large kite very quickly as compared to a standard spool-type reel (that was really the only plus to this edition). Although almost 3 times as expensive as this version, the 9" Hengda has a smooth finished plastic surface and is thicker so it is more comfortable to hold and manage. The handle design on the larger edition is also a better smooth rotating design and I know by comparison it will be a pleasure to use. Don't waste your money on this Hengda - buy the more expensive version and you'll have a MUCH better experience with your kites.

This is a review of the top end yellow model.A high quality product, very easy to use.I purchased this to replace a different reel (sold by a different company). That reel was way too small for my hand. This one could have a bit more room, but no complaints.I also really like the lock. Each to use and effective. And because it is made of a think steel rod, I expect it to hold up. My previous reel had a lock like the lower end 3 models. I didn't much care for that kind of lock; it was a bit fiddly to use. And since that lock doubled as a handle, you had to engage it from the locked position to reel in line. This product does not have any issues in that regard.The grip for winding in line is very nice. A good size and easy to hold.I wasn't too impressed with the carrying case, but I didn't buy this product for the case.Over all, I'm very satisfied with this kite reel.

Very flimsy. Winding knob is dainty and snaps off very easily, had to glue it in. There is no anti-reverse feature and locking the rotation is dome by folding the knob down. Too small for an adult hand. There are way better winders out there for a way better price. Also the string is spun, not braded. Seller stating that this is a professional product is a joke, and a bad one.... One more thing: the spot where the removable (why?!!!) winding knob is attached protrudes into groove for the string thus creating a bump on the wound string.
