That is how these come in our nearby Michaels and I am OK with that since I tape each page to a board before painting. But these pads that I received ARE spiral bound, one way or the other it is great paper to work on and I will just cut off the spiral edges.

We are new to watercolor. I love the yellow cover. This really doesn't feel different than the yellow cover one, 300 series.
