Excellent insight into Pete Duel from many that knew him.
The book is excellent and I recommend it if you really want to learn more about who Pete Duel was. I think Paul Green did an amazing job and what was most impressive was all of the personal insight from the people that were closest to Pete Duel. The book was great but honestly I'm disappointed after learning so much about who Pete Duel really was and what some that were close to him were really like. Clearly Pete struggled with many demons. One of his friends in the book said it best. He presented himself as a strong advocate for the environment, yet smoked 4 packs of unfiltered cigarettes a day. You can't have it both ways. I'm not trying to be critical of him but was sincerely disappointed after learning more about him. Learning that he hated Alias Smith and Jones was also disappointing. It's almost as if he was determined to complain and dislike most everything that came to him in life. Some facts were also rather disappointing to read. The fact that Ben Murphy never attended his LA memorial service, to Dianne Ray, his last girlfriend writing out a list of what she wanted of Pete's on the plane as the family and close friends flew back to Penfield, NY from LA after the memorial service. Overall it's a great book but I would rather not have known some of what I learned. Just being honest. I'll always appreciate Pete Duels work as Hannibal Heyes. One of my all time favorite TV characters as a kid.

Excellent Book!
The first edition of this book came out in 2007, and I was so thankful that someone had finally written a book about my favorite actor from my favorite show from when I was a child. Because of Pete Duel's short, tragic life, the subject matter was sometimes difficult to process, but the book was well-researched and included a lot of information from people who knew him well. It was very insightful and contained lots of new information about the man, his life and work. Paul Green's 2nd Edition is even better. It includes additional photos and two additional chapters. There is updated family information and the added chapters helped bring closure to the subject. I read the 2nd Edition cover to cover, and enjoyed it even more than the first. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Pete Duel, "Alias Smith and Jones," or simply enjoys an excellent character study.

It was undoubtedly the best version of this book
It was undoubtedly the best version of this book, and answered so many questions I've had for years. It gave such insight into the man, his problems and his life. If you loved Pete Duel and his characters on TV, this book will help explain why his life was so tortured and why he eventually came to that awful night of December 31, 1971, when his world (and many others') came to an end. Updated from the first edition with many more quotes and additional information. A must read for any fan.

Good insight into a very gifted actor of his generation
Pete Duel is one of my favourite actors with his work in Alias Smith and Jones with Ben Murphy. This is one of my favourite action comedy shows and I was sad to hear of how Pete Duel passed away.

Pete Duel 2nd edition
I adore reading biographies and have read many , some good, some not so good but reading this one did not dissapoint. I also have the 1st edition, my concern was in buying the 2nd edition, there wouldn't be much difference and would be a waste of money, but there was a lot of new info and some new never seen before photos which was a nice surprise. I would absolutely recommend any Pete Duel fan buy both editions and would like to thank the author Paul Green for his great work in putting these two editions together. A very honest and informative look at his life and work.

A tough read, yet respectful, honest and honors the light that was Pete Duel
With every turn of the page you are faced with light & shadow of Pete's persona. With every turn of the page you know you are moving closer to the truth of Pete's suicide, and though I wanted so much to learn all there is to learn about the complex and complicated character of Pete Duel, the ending of his life at 31 is so hard to endure and I find myself, as many others, wishing he had not pulled that trigger. My Smith & Jones DVD'S are my pure joy, and I watch the entire 50 episodes at least every 3 months.God bless you Mr.Duel, for what you did leave behind, your poems and your amazing, gifted talent as an actor, your incredible smile, and not the least for giving us Hannibal Heyes. This is a tough read but it's respectful, honest and honorable of an incredible light extinguished far too soon.

Very workmanlike, comprehensive biography.
Pete Duel WAS Alias Smith & Jones for me and the subsequent series did not work. I had not realized, until I watched a brief documentary, the reason/means of his demise.I have gone back to watching the first series after a 40-year lull, so I am glad the documentary and this biography have reignited my interest in this series and this gifted actor. The approach in the biography is comprehensive, without drowning us into detail or very many tangents. My copy was not cheap, but worth every penny.

A must for fans
In my opinion, this book gives a more rounded view of Pete Duel, a much better idea of what the man was really like; there was so much more information from his friends. I found the last chapters (expert analysis) very insightful and they have 'laid to rest' some questions I have harboured over the years. He seems to have been a charming man, but with too many demons. Had it not been for his illnesses, his alcohol abuse and his unattainable ideals for himself, he would have been a happier man. The author, Paul Green, is to be congratulated for making the effort to present us with a more rounded picture of the real man behind the roles. I still love Hannibal Heyes, but I now understand Pete Duel a bit more.

A great read. A life cut short with so much to offer. A sad but poignant read.
A great read. Couldn't put it down. Such a tragedy. A life cut short without the benefit if rehab. A person who thought he was loved by no one A sad but poignant portrayal of a life cut short in its prime. For anyone who loved him in alias smith and Jones, this is unmissable.
