OUTSTANDING!
A masterful, needed, and inspiring work for survivors of toxic childhood stress. Packed with useful information and professional advice and practical solutions delivered in an imminently readable, approachable style from a health expert with heart, help, and hope. I highly recommend this workbook. The book clearly explains the full range of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), which profoundly influence child development and significantly impact adult mental and emotional behavior, health, and well-being.The latest research and application of current findings in neuroscience related to ACEs are clearly laid out. I also appreciate the insights, understanding, and effective strategies for addressing ACEs—which strategies are lacking in most books on the topic. Ultimately, the workbook gives hope and help to survivors that they can overcome and heal from the deep hidden wounds of childhood trauma that continue to haunt them in adulthood—wounds they often feel unable to comprehend and powerless to change.Dr. Schiraldi’s understanding for the traumas people have experienced and compassion for the suffering they endure are surpassed only by his interest to provide tools to help them address their personal pain and his intent to empower them to heal and recover. A remarkable resource.

A fantastic guide to healing that makes what seems to be impossible, possible.
This is a powerful book that has helped me move through childhood traumas that I’ve carried for years. A must read for anyone who needs direction for a deeper understanding of our pain and how to heal. Best self help book out there! It truly hits home on many levels. From start to finish there are lessons to be learned and healing that happens. So much so, I would read a little bit and notice a difference and be so excited to pick it back up and see what I was going to work on next. I have read a lot of books that claim to help and heal and I am so happy that I found a book that worked for me. A lot of times the idea of confronting your trauma and trying to fix it can be scary, and this book made my journey of healing feel approachable and able to be rectified.

Very insightful information
I liked all the information related to trauma, and somatic exercises, because they go in-line with other authors that he also mentions in this book. The exercises are very interesting, relatively easy to do, and well explained, and again, they go well with all the theory of somatic work for people dealing with childhood trauma ( neglect, abuse, etc) that it is around in other books and sources. The reason I give only 4 stars is because I felt bit "forced" to believe in god. The author mentions a couple of studies from a university, I think, saying that people who follow a religion and believe in god had higher self esteem and are happier in general. I will look into more detail on how those studies were conducted, but I don't believe that by believing or worshiping a higher entity, will give you a good self esteem. How about those kids sexually bused by priests, how about people who believe in God only because they are fearful of hell, or karma...? Religion could be good and positive for some, but not for all. Believing in something can make some people have a sense of comfort and I understand that, but not everybody needs that type of comfort. I didn't appreciate the subtle way in the book to persuade me about the need to believe in a god to be happier and have a good self esteem. Then why bother to do all these exercises if by believing in god, and following a religion, I will have a good chance to improve? But I have to say that the part where god is mentioned is just a short chapter, so I skipped the exercise part of it.

A powerhouse read
Never did I expect to dive so deeply into my early wounds ,and understand why they affected me so much as an adult. This has helped me to heal in so many ways and change behavior I hadn't known how to before reading this powerful book.Thank you Dr Schiraldi

Highly recommended ACES workbook helps readers understand and take practical actions to heal
"The Adverse Childhood Recovery Workbook" has been extremely helpful to me in two respects. First, it helped me understand the impact traumatic events during my own childhood had on me and how to heal them. Second, it helped me in my work coaching and training leaders who experienced traumatic events in their childhood. The author, Glenn Schiraldi does solid work. He incorporates scientific research and explains it in understandable language. He also includes healing actions readers can take that make the workbook practical. For those who are interested in understanding ACES and how to heal from the damage adverse childhood experiences does, I highly recommend this workbook.

Awareness, education and purposeful positive progress. A great guide and workbook.
A great book for anyone interested in better understanding our childhood experiences, life experiences and the effects they have on our lives. Dr. Schiraldi’s book offers insightful information to better understand our life experiences, the behavior that may be associated with these experiences and practical methods to improve our way of thinking in a positive direction. His book is skillfully organized to begin with an explanation and awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences, then lays out practical and effective exercises to address areas of personal concern. I think this book will be of great value to individuals seeking a way to manage positive progress toward understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences and easy to understand and practical methods to track positive results. Dr. Schiraldi’s book is also a great learning document, guide and resource for professionals interested in furthering their knowledge of this topic.
