Too Many Jennys: Fifth Grade

From a 11 year old girl perspective
Too Many Jenny’s : Fifth Grade is one of my favorite books hands down. I would recommend it to 4-7 graders and maybe younger grades to read with a parent! Too Many Jenny’s was able to get me in the time period of 1982, a period I never knew existed and it was cool to read and imagine how my parents grew up. From the funky hairdos to tape players ( I finally learned what a tape player is) playing the GoGos! I think I loved this book so much because I didn’t just learn about Jenny Foster I learned about the time period and I think it Is important to learn about the past! I overall rate this book 5 stars and I hope others agree when I say one of the best books ever! Anxiously waiting for a book two! My final note is that no matter the decade I think it is really important to have true friends one of the keys to success. P.S after I finished Too Many Jenny’s I found my mom’s year book HOLY HAIR!!

FANTASTIC book choice for ~4th-7th grade girls (and their moms)!!!
I LOVED this book! It is a fun, relevant, meaty yet easy-reading novel/ memoir to enjoy alongside your tweenage daughters. I found the stories within each chapter so timeless and relatable to my own experiences as an adolescent. It reminded me so of all the Judy Blume books I loved as a kid with their teenage crushes and heartbreaks and awkward embarrassments and of course navigating queen bees and mean girls. I also just loved all the 1980s nostalgia and fashion and 80s food and lifestyle descriptions of stuff I haven’t remembered for 25years. Even though I never lived in suburban Chicago, growing up in the 80s in CT, it felt like a trip down memory lane. All in all, this book covers such important lessons about being a good friend, standing up to bullies while still having empathy for them, and mostly being comfortable in one’s own skin even when faced new situations. I highly recommend this book. It’s just a really fun read!

My daughter snuck a nite-lite under her covers to finish this book.
Amazon asked: What did I like?I LIKED the fact that my daughter, who finished fifth grade last month, LOVED this book.Amazon asked: What did I buy it for?I bought I for my daughter because I went to high school with the author and she was bright and well written then, so why wouldn’t I support her artistry now. I’ll buy her next book because of the answer to question one. My daughter LOVED this book. Support independent artists, support wholesome family entertainment, support those who will instill a life-long love of the written word in your children. Ms Shiman creation touched something inside my little girl’s heart and I’ll always be grateful for that. Please buy her book and help share it with a world that needs to read more of what’s inside the covers than anything social media can give them. Your kid(s) will thank you, I promise!

Classic YA Novel, fun for anyone who survived 5th grade!
I had no idea when I picked up this book how much I would relate to Jenny. Even in the ‘90s of my youth, roller skating parties were central to the social experience and so much thought went into which friend group to interact with at recess. I laughed so hard about the gift “Nif” gave her dad at Christmas that my boys demanded to be let in on the joke. Read it with your daughters, and sons! An enjoyable read for all that will leave you wanting more. What’s 6th grade like for Jenny? I really want to know!?!

Fun trip down memory lane!
Too Many Jennys captures the spirit of pubescent angst during the 1980s so perfectly and vividly I could smell the Aqua Net and cherry lip gloss. A great insight to the awkward yrs we all experience and how to navigate them while learning life lessons along the way. I had so much fun discussing this book with my kids (13&15) and although hairstyles, fashion and celebrity crushes have changed over the years, the experiences that we feel so deeply during those adolescent years are the same and so relatable. Thank you for the fun trip down memory lane, I look forward to the next book!

Fun and enjoyable Summer read!
Loved this book! Thank you Jen Shiman for reminding me how simple life used to be ( although those tweenage age years had their fair share of drama -lol)!! My daughter is in the middle of reading this over our vacation and it is fun to discuss how life used to be, with her. This is a great read for anyone that grew up in the 80’s as a tweenage or teenager! Well done!!

Delightful Read
This book is delightful! Like Jenny, I moved to a new state and school the summer before entering fifth grade. The author captured my emotions exactly. I remember times of nervousness, excitement, and anticipation as the day approached for school to begin. I guarantee that you will enjoy the various adventures and social situations that Jenny encounters during the school year. A fun read.
