Samyang SY85M-P 85mm F1.4 Lens for Pentax (Black)

Update: 17 Dec. 2015I called Elite Brands twice since this review. Both times, I was greeted by only an answering machine. Both times, I left a message with all the requested information. Both times, I received no reply. I called Amazon today and received a far better reaction, and Amazon even honored the replacement warranty when the manufacturer did not. A huge thank you to Amazon, and a huge disregard for customer satisfaction on the part of Elite Brands. Hopefully no one else is left to deal with them for warranty issues, and (if possible) attempt to work through Amazon if you have troubles.9 Dec. 2015This lens creates some great images. I can't deny that. The focus ring is a dream, it's beautiful from wide open and onward, and I loved the portraits and event photos I got with this. (Yes, you can use manual lenses for concert and sports photography, you just need a quick hand and a feel for the focus) The lens was never dropped, always double capped when not in use, and generally loved while it worked.Despite these pros, I received this lens in August, and by October (read: shortly after the 30-day return window) the aperture stopped working. Whenever the lens so pleases, the aperture coupling lever sticks in place, and proceeds to shoot photos at f/1.4 no matter where the camera (in Auto mode) or the aperture ring tells it to close to for the shot. This is a terrible problem to have, as it wrecks the exposure and depth of field sporadically, and renders the lens essentially useless for events, as it is not consistent.Overall, I'm working with the manufacturer currently to sort this out via the included 1-year warranty, and will adjust my rating up/down depending on their response. A full refund would be great, but we'll see what their plans are.TL;DR: My aperture stopped working at random. Amazon replaced it when Samyang/Rokinon/Elite Brands took no action.

Well built and well designed. I expected a lighter weight and a less sturdy product, I was pleasantly surprised it was neither of those.The **** rating was probably because my eyes are not what they used to be in terms of focusing. I bought it to shoot in low light situations, it does that well, however because of the low f-stop, the depth of field was very shallow hence my eyes had to work a bit harder. If your camera has a built in signal to indicate that you are in focus - no worries.Lens shoots well in well lighted conditions.My camera shoots in an aperture priority mode, so shooting in low light conditions requires that you have a steady hand because the shutter speed was slow.Suggest a filter, nice lens so you may want to protect it.

bought it, and have good build quality. I use pentax k70, however, it is more difficult than I thought to manual focus it. I have to return it. I am not sure whether I need to adjust my camera setting or what to make it work. I used focus peaking , when i shot the picture, it is out of focus. I did get a Irix Firefly 15mm, with a build in chip, it is much easy to focus. I have pentax k 200mm, no problem with focus.amazon amazing service.

Big, beautiful lens. Advantages of the Pentax version include the "A" position, which means aperture changes can be automated. Even in full manual mode, which hairy-chested photographers like me use, I can simply spin the rear wheel on my K5 and change the aperture as needed. The other neat thing about the K5 is the "catch in focus" system, which means I can push down the shutter and the camera will fire when I achieve focus. I've even gotten some decent macro-level photographs with this by simply slowly adjusting my distance to something while keeping my finger down on the shutter. When I zoom in, I effectively am getting really nice macro shots of flowers this way!

Si no te molesta enfoque manual, es muy recomendable para retratos por su gran luminosidad y a buen precio. Estoy entusiasmado con las fotos logradas porque realize una comparación con los objetivos llegados con el kit y son muy superiores. Pretendo probarlo con video, cuál será el resultado?
