Decent read
I found myself pausing now and again and thinking I’d like to hear from other sources, because Paul sure did seem to have a pattern of being misunderstood, messed with for no good reason, etc. I’m guessing his feistiness contributed to him being “targeted” more than he’s willing to admit in this effort.

Get over yourself please.
I really wanted to love this book as I'd seen him ref many games at Boston Gardens but , I'm sorry, he just comes across as a blowhard. It's just no stop "I'm so tough, my Dad was tough, my grandfather was tough "and on and on and on about how he's another tough guy from Dorchester who doesn't back down from anyone. It gets old fast.If there's a lesson to be learned from this book it's read Bobby Orr's book or Bob Probert's book or dig into John Scott's book( a 6' 8" NHL fighter who had a much longer career than Stewart)and see how humble they are in comparison. There's no need to pound your chest and go on and on for 25 pages and tell yourself how "tough" you are. I get it. You're awesome. Wish I was.

Loving Life and Hockey
Paul Stewart is known as a battler. In fact, he relishes the battle. He waged a successful battle with cancer and he had many battles to make it as a pro hockey player and referee. He writes about all of those experiences here and draws you into his story. I feel privileged to know him and to have been on hand for his induction in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Like Paul - this is a very lively read!

Great book!
One of the most enjoyable book About one Of The great hockey characters.About a great player and exceptional referee. I remember watching him at the Books County Arena . You could always count on a player or red who would be charging ahead no matter what was in front of him. More importantly he was always a good person who truly loved hockey..

Great backstage look at NHL ref and great life story
Interesting book from start to finish. I read his blog on hockeybuzz.com and love his insights in to rules and the game today. It was great to read about his life, struggles, and accomplishments. Great stories about being a player and a ref. Highly recommend. Very easy read.

Love of the game
A great story about Stewie's grit and passion for hockey, told with raw honesty and humor. As good a picture of the guts of the game as you will read, with a wonderful story of one family's life intertwined in major league sports over decades. I couldn't put it down.

Very good read
Learned a lot about him. Always hated him as a ref because he always seemed to have it in for my team but great to learn about his career.

Not What was expected
I am 1/3 way through the book. Knowing that Paul was an NHL official attracted me to it. But at this point I am quite disappointed. It starts out talking all about Boston which is great if you know Boston. Then it goes into detail with almost every fight he had. He was not a hockey player, he was a goon! That position no longer exists in the NHL, thank goodness. Hope this book gets better, I'm bored.
