Metolius Super Chalk Sock - Standard

I purchased a chalk sock thinking that I had selected the refillable option, but the seller (The Gear Co-op) had the wrong images up for the option and I accidentally ordered a non-refillable option. As of writing this review there is only one option offered, yet the description reads "A refillable or non-refillable chalk sock." I am not sure what you get if your order it now.That said, the non-refillable chalk sock is okay. I personally like to use chalk bricks that I can grumble in my bucket at the climbing gym where I primarily boulder, but I was doing some travel and the gyms I was going to required climbers to use only chalk socks. On it's own, it took a while to really break in to release enough chalk to coat my hands, but got better with use.These days I keep it in my by chalk bag for top roping. I also tossed in a bit of loose chalk. I find the chalk sock is actually great when thrown in a bag with loose chalk as it will pick up extra chalk and make application to one hand while hanging off the other much easier while climbing.Overall the chalk sock is good for a chalk sock. But if you are the type of person that swears by loose chalk this isn't going to change your opinion. It is unfortunate that the seller description makes it hard to understand which version of the chalk sock customers are purchasing.

I bought this with my chalk bag for beginner's climbing. At first, the sock was difficult to get any chalk out, but over time, chalk just flowed out. I bought this for climbing indoors, so I do not know how it would fare outdoors.Overall, it's a great buy!

Didn't last as long as I expected. Didn't seem to have too much powder inside.

I've only used two brands of Chalk Sock so far, but compared to my previous purchase, Metolius is far superior.The sock is thick, not a cheap cheesecloth like material. You might ask yourself if the sock is thick, won't the chalk be difficult to distribute? Well the chalk is actually of a high quality as well. It coats really thinly (particles must be really small) but what appears to be a slight dusting really dries up your palms and fingertips. I don't really need to see a coat of chalk to get the effect I want, which is great! Less material between me and the grips. If you really need to apply it, taking it out of your chalk bag and rolling it between your palms works wonders without kicking up too much dust.Even though I don't have much experience with other brands, I feel Metolius deserves a 5 simply because I couldn't really ask for more. I haven't had to fill it back up yet, so perhaps there's room for error, but this refillable sock isn't stapled shut like my previous refillable brand, so I'm not too concerned.

The sock is too thick and it was a pain to get much chalk from it quickly. I've used better.

This is exactly as described. Is a bag of chalk. Easy to use, easy to deal with. Best of all it was cheap.
