Pass Your Amateur Radio Extra Class Test - The Easy Way (EasyWayHamBooks)

It really works. I learned a ton.
When I started I soon got to the point where I thought I was cheating myself and kind of being a fraud. After all, it's more important to actually learn the material than just pass a test and still not know anything. But as I kept on I found that not only did I know the answer but I knew why that answer was right. I have taken about 50 practice tests so far and have not failed once. I am averaging 92-98% lately. I will take the real test in a week. I highly recommend this book.

Great Books
Thank you for creating such wonderful books. I used your Technician, General and Extra study books to pass all three exams with an average score of 96 within five months without taking a practice test. I passed the Extra Class exam today.

Well written and organized...
This is a well written book and gives the reader a "no-fluff" explanation to some of the harder questions. It does not answer each and every question in detail. If you are the type of learner who requires to be given the ABC's of all electronic theory, then you will be disappointed. I think it is safe to say the author assumes the reader has a basal level knowledge of electronics theory and you can read a schematic. Therefore, when you get to some of the questions it assumes you already are familiar with Ohm's Law and Kirchhoff's Law and don't require hand-holding. There are many mnemonics and shortcuts to answering some of the more difficult questions on the exam. There are some overlap questions from the General and Technician exams along with some electronic schematics and symbols you need to go over once again. I feel as though the book was money well spent and it did a very good job of preparing me for the exam. I spent about 3 weeks studying 3-4 hours per day. Some people who took this exam thought it was easy and did not understand all of the fuss. Don't fall for that story/line. This exam is no "cakewalk" and requires a lot of dedication to study and preparation. PS-I passed the very first try!

Hilariously Imperfect... Yet Indispensable
This book is an excellent tool to use to prepare for the Extra exam. I used it in conjunction with other study guides to make sure I understood the answers completely, an approach which I recommend for anyone going for the Extra simply as a matter of principle. The author's intent is to help you recognize the correct answers, which it did for me. I read the book twice over, and unfamiliar material multiple times. It is especially important to read the second part too, which contains just the correct answers without the narrative hints. My only complaint about the book is that it is completely riddled with typos, and I mean on literally every page. Some of the typos are formatting errors like inconsistent use of boldface, or forgotten paragraph spacing, but most are spelling errors which in some cases alter the meaning of the content. Mostly it's just annoying to see something published that has obviously not even been proofread, let alone copy-edited. I'm a little concerned about the publisher, EasyWayHamBooks. Are they unable to afford to hire an intern at minimum wage to give their books a once-over before putting them on the market? Do they really think that words are good enough if they are only approximately correct? Assuming that English is their first language, I have to wonder what was the thought process behind the decision to cut corners in the most obvious way possible, and if it isn't a cry for financial help then what does it really mean? I'm almost tempted to send them a small donation so they can afford to pay some literate schoolkid a few bucks to give their books a once-over and help them back on their feet, but I'm also concerned about enabling them if they're just being lazy or self-destructive. I do hope they are in good health and not rushing the book to market because--heaven forbid--time is somehow of the essence. Nevertheless, I do recommend the book as an invaluable study aid.

Craig Buck Books Are the Best
Dear Ham Radio Community and Candidates:I want to submit a thank you to Craig Buck for writing and publishing his Easy Way to Pass the Amateur Radio License Test books. This includes the Technician Class, General Class and the Amateur Radio Extra Class books. This summer I have studied and passed the Technician class, the General class and the Amateur Extra class tests. I give Craig Buck the credit for making it possible for me to self-study and pass the exams.Passing these exams is a great milestone for me. 61 years ago, when I was 12 years old, I got my Novice class license (WV6ENP). I built a Heathkit super heterodyne receiver and a Heathkit DX-40 transmitter. My Dad and I put up a short vertical antenna, just outside my bedroom and a dipole only a few feet above the flat roof of our house. I had a great time contacting hams using CW all over the place. I studied for the General class exam and was able to pass the code test at better than 13 WPM but never could get the theory down well enough to pass the written exam. I honestly think the General Class test in those days was more difficult than the one I took this summer. Unfortunately, I didn’t have books like Craig Buck’s to study. So, after a year, my license expired, and I dropped the hobby. Then life got in my road and I spent almost 7 years in the Army Signal Corp, got married, raised a family, got married a second time and survived to retirement. After I retired from 25 years of government service with several local building departments, I started a consulting business. That business had kept me so busy that even though I started thinking about getting my General class license I didn’t have the time, energy or resources. However, my business took off a couple of years ago and I have 14 people working for me that do such a good job that I now have the time and resources to return to my hobby. So here I am, waiting expectantly for my new Amateur Extra license call sign to appear on the FCC ULS web site.Hope to see lots of you on the air.Sincerely,Rick CowperthwaiteKN6DDE

Great study guide
This is a very advanced study guide for ham radio operators. It will help you pass the test. You must know the basics of circuitry, theory, and radio operation. Unfortunately, it has some errors in it, and I have notified the author, who confirmed my findings.
