You have to dig
Written at a higher level of abstraction than I would have expected with the words 'beginner's' and 'guide' in the title. The title implied to me that it would be convenient lists and concise information. It reads like the publisher pushed for more pages so in went the sawdust filler. I was able to extract my lists and distill my own concise information. I would rate this book 2 1/2 stars. Half of the third star is a gift by virtue of the system constraints.

A Tasty, Healthy, Easy to Follow Diet for Eating Your Way to Good Health
My daughter has been after me to try the DASH diet because of my hypertension. I've totally been ignoring her, but when I saw this book right after she talked to be about it (again!), I took it as a sign and purchased it.I'm really glad I did. This way of eating would not be a problem for me. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, meat in reasonable portions and grains. I thought DASH was just another fad diet, but it looks very sensible to me. This diet has been recommended by many persons and organizations ranging from the National Institute of Health to Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz felt it was so important, he did 3 shows on this diet. This is a good book for beginners, and it gives plenty of references for further research and studies.I started on this way of eating as soon as I bought this book. I love the 7 day menu plan in this book available for a quick start. There are also recipes for each meal and I've already tried several of them including Vegetables and Cheese Egg Muffins for on the go and Pizza in a Pita Bread for only 170 calories.An added benefit is that since my daughter has been on this diet for a while, we talk every day about it and this helps both of us stay on track. I recommend if you have a friend with high blood pressure or high cholesterol, buy two of this Dash Diet book and improve your health as a team. It's much more fun and inspiring than doing this alone.

Great ideas but expected more
I was a little disappointed because I'm looking a for a book that had meal plans already done for me. I'm very busy working women and it would be easier for me to follow suggested meal plans already done than sit and try to figure out what to choose from the list of suggested fruit, vegetables etc. what was in the book was great but left me with wanting more.

NOTHING NEW ABOUT THIS DIET
IT IS NO DIFFERENT FROM SO MANY OF THE DIETS OUT THERE.IT REQUIRES A LOT OF SET UP TO CHANGING YOUR KITCHEN AND CALLS FOR SOME INGREDIENTS NOT ALWAYSFOUND EASILY IN THE SUPERMARKETS.

I threw away my blood pressure pills!
Seems to me that is the best and easiewt way to keep blood pressure down and avoid excess pounds.Not especially great for quick weight loss.But my blood pressure is definitely better when I stick to this diet.I no longer have to take blood rpessure pills.It's also a relatively easy diet, not exceptionally restrictive.

Not enough indepty information, limited amount of recipes. A good basic first book on the topic. I would have preferred more content and more recipes.

Great beginners book!
I'm a massive health enthusiast. I care about my health and the health of my family above and beyond anything in my life.That being said, the Dash Diet is a great method for those who aren't hardcore health enthusiasts like myself. It draws you in simply, with an easy to manage diet and helpful tips, without overloading you with all of the technical mumbo jumbo that beginners in the healthy-living lifestyle might not understand.A great, highly recommended read to anyone looking to lose a few pounds and start themselves on the road to better health. Kudos to the author, Sandra Rossi, for helping newbies get their health back on track! :)

Not enough information
Too expensive for the amount of information and recipes in this book. Would not recommend it to anyone or purchase from this author again. A rip off for the cost.

Poorly written!
This is probably the most poorly written book I have ever read. I bought this book to become knowledgeable about the DASH diet, and support my daughter in her efforts. The content is OK, but it's a struggle to get at the content through such poor grammar and structure. It reads like a Grade Five essay. Too bad, as the content is important.
