Can't see the black sand.
After using this gold pan I have come to realize that while it allows the color of the gold to pop, I have a hard time seeing how much black sand I have in the pan.

I purchased this item for the kids, we have a small creek near our house and I figured they would have a good time panning for gold. When the item arrived, I found that my interests were as high as the kids and though we didn't find any gold, I can attribute some good father son and son time to this well made gold pan. Though my uses were more recreation I believe, with my vast knowledge of the show "Gold Rush" that this pan would stand up to the trials of a more serious gold mining expedition. The pan is well made, thick plastic that doesn't warp in use, and the rivets provide an excellent place for the gold to land.

Kids starter pan
Don't waste money on this. Get garret 15 inch super sluice pan. It's all I use now. I found that out watching YouTube videos. "Ask Jeff williams" in particular. He is an ultra pro geologist. Hits fold all day long this guy. Also you can dry pan with the super sluice really easy.

Exactly what I was expecting
This gold pan is sturdy and it is exactly what I was looking for. I opted for the black so what I collect is enhanced against the black color. And it works well as a conversation piece when I use it as a chip bowl.
