Q: the handle is twisted to the left when in the full "off" position and I wonder if the installer should have leveled it?

Since this handle and trip plate fit on the Moen Posi-Temp valve (Valve 2510 or 2590 or 2570 or 2520), the installation of the latter is what dictates how far the handle protrudes and how far it twists to the off position. If the valve was not installed in the correct vertical alignment, the handle probably will not be vertical in the closed position. If the installer is willing to come out and look at it, that's where I would suggest you start. Plumbers have all sorts of ways of making adjustments that could take the rest of us a frustrating eon to figure out. This probably occurred because they usually have to install the valve before the tile or other finish work can be done. Since they cannot perfectly anticipate how thick the tile will be or other dimensions affected by the finish work, they will have to return to make any adjustments after everything else is complete. The trim is only compatible with Posi-Temp valves that control temperature only. The compatible valves are; 2510, 2520, 2570, 2590.
