Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan have taken themselves off to Greece for their latest series of The Trip, so expect plenty of moussaka and feta and bickering as the two comedians eat their way around the Greek islands.

A Bit Of A Disappointment
Compared to the first 3 "Trips" (UK, Italy & Spain), this is a disappointment. The conversation is not as good, there doesn't seem to be as much humour or funny things being said etc, and finally there seems to be less impersonations and the ones that are being done don't seem to be entertaining, like the previous ones were. Also, Steve seems to constantly run Rob down and say how much better he is than Rob (I know it's a fictional show, but it still is not good entertainment). Finally, without giving away the storyline, the last episode is not entertaining at all - it's just miserable. I was actually glad when it finished. The other 3 "Trips" were good & I would watch them again, but I won't watch this series of "The Trip" again.

Self-indulgent rubbish
I bought this video on the strength of reviews in the press, and frankly it was £13 wasted. It might well be a work of fiction, but when fiction approaches reality so closely, it inevitably becomes reality. And then what are we left with? Two actors on a jaunt through Greece (not that we see much of Greece) immersed in self-indulgent dialogue that is neither particularly amusing nor inspiring. Humour that relies mostly on impressions, but neither Coogan nor Brydon are particularly good impressionists and they lack wit. They eat fine food, but are largely oblivious to what they are eating. They visit ancient monuments (for a couple of minutes) but are clearly not interested in them. They interact less with their surroundings (people and place) than a couple of blokes on a package-holiday to Magaluf. So what is the point of this? It fails as satire, it fails as comedy, and it fails as travelogue. If it has any entertainment value at all, it’s probably as an after-dinner conversation topic in Hampstead over coffee and Armagnac.

They will be sorely missed
I hope they change their minds and that we’ll be able to meet them again at the dining table, maybe somewhere in France? I love this series, it’s just like eating and drinking with one’s own friends, talking nonsense, but always touching upon basic human issues, i.e. friendship, love, loss etc.The Trip to Greece would have been brilliant, if they’ve said “She was only 16 years old” at least once. Or they could have used “He was only 54 years old” in the scene where they realize they couldn’t have taken part in the Sparta elders council, made up of men over the age of sixty.

Good, but (sadly) not great!
I really enjoyed the previous Trips but despite the fantastic scenery I was a little underwhelmed by this season. If you’re a fan of Coogan or Brydon it’s definitely worth watching. Has inspired me to book a trip to Greece after lockdown though.

Entertaining
Not their best trip it would have been nivpce to see a bit more if Greece at times as too much talking especially in one scene
