Must-have
My girlfriend is from Chicago, so I had to get some Ditka's for her so she can have a taste of home while we're working out of state.

I would recommend either the Potbelly branded peppers or the Vienna brand ...
A little too salty for my taste. I would recommend either the Potbelly branded peppers or the Vienna brand Giardiniera instead.

Very good, but over-priced. Definitely worth a try. Addictive.
Ditka's Hot Giardiniera is a soybean-oil-based giardiniera mix. The vegetables are mostly carrots, celery, cauliflower, and the common peppers found in most Chicago-style giardiniera mixes. Because it is a soybean-oil-based mix like Alpino, it has a higher viscosity than those giardiniera mixes based upon lighter vegetable or seed oils, such as Mezzetta or Marconi. This makes for a much richer mouth-feel than the thinner, lighter oil-based giardiniera mixes. However, the delicate flavor of the soybean oil does not overwhelm the complex flavor of the chopped vegetables, peppers, and spices like it may in olive-oil-based mixes, such as Vienna.Qualitatively, Ditka's is comparable to other giardiniera mixes generally priced about one dollar less. I assume that is due to the cost of brand licensing. When it comes to Chicago-style giardiniera mixes, everyone has their own personal preference for different reasons, which can lead to fierce, but infinitely futile arguments about which mix is the "best", but Ditka's is quite unique and delicious enough to easily become your favorite. Put it on anything!
