Second one of these I've owned
This is the second one of this specific cherry pitter I've owned - the first lasted 8 years before I decided to replace it. Over the years, not getting the plate that holds the cherries seated properly meant that the plastic of the plate had been chipped and broken off in spots and I felt that it had reached the point that replacing it made more sense than babying it to make sure the plate didn't eventually break. It's made of really quality materials, very nice, heavy weight plastic and stiff, sturdy springs. The top and bottom disconnect for ease of use and cleaning, the springs lock down (from the top) so storage is easy, and the metal tines are super strong and last well.BUT the middle plastic plate, that holds the cherries for pitting must be seated properly every single time or you'll have the problem I did with my first one and those strong metal tines will start to chip at the plastic plate and you'll break your pitter (eventually) and end up with tiny shards of plastic in your fruit. Now, it's not hard to seat properly, really, it's not, it fits very nicely where it's supposed to. But, when you're pitting pounds and pounds of cherries, it's easy to miss it sliding out of place as you move it around, most typically when removing and replacing cherries. I found that pressing the pitter closed then gently tapping the hinged corner on your work surface will move the pits back to that corner, allowing you to pit longer without the pits from previous cherries interfering with pitting the next. But that could mean that the plastic plate isn't seated properly when you reopen it, so it's definitely something to keep your eye on as you add more cherries to it to continue pitting.I really do love this gadget (and I'm not one for kitchen gadgets, in general.) It's convenient, quick, and easy to use. Cleaning it, well, I'm a bit of a neatnik so it's a little irritating. The bottom and plastic cherry plate are easily washed but the top is a bit more tricky. You can lock the spring plate back (like you'd do for storage) and clean the tines and bottom of the spring plate just fine but the top of the spring plate, where juice and, sometimes, small pieces of cherry skin end up, is much harder. The opening is quite small and you can only really get in there with small straw type brushes to do any real *washing,* though it's easily rinsed in hot soapy water. If that isn't going to bother you, you'll be fine. But if you're one to want to scrub all the surfaces, it's really not possible with this version.

Works well!
Our family loves this gadget! I used to place my cherries on a cooling rack (the grid kind) set in a baking sheet and pop the pit out using a hard straw. While that worked, it took hours and I (and everything around me) was covered in red splatter. Now we just stem the cherries, place them stem side up (I tell my children to make the cherry look at the ceiling), then push down and voila, done. I did 2 pounds of cherries in a few minutes. Amazing! My children also love doing this for me, and my 5 yo has taught me how to use it properly. When I would press down, I would slam it like a stapler, and although the pit would come out, it would still be hanging onto the cherry (still super easy to lift the tray high and pull off stragglers). My 5 yo comes in and SLOWLY and gently presses (like so slowly I'm getting impatient). I start to explain how I do it, use more muscle, etc, when he lifts the tray and shows that all 4 pits have removed completely. What?! So now we all do it nice and slow and gentle, and for the most part, all 4 fly out.I will say that while it does come apart to clean, the top part does not come apart. I am still able to get it clean, but I wish the top came apart to clean up by the metal spike things. Even so, I highly recommend this thing.

Love it, but please make one that is for cherries only. Still worth it though.
Cherry pitter where have you been all my life?!!! I didn't even know this product existed until...well I don't know how I came across this little treasure find but man, I am glad I did. I was pitting cherries (for smoothie bowls) one by one with a pairing knife *sad emoji* *gun emoji*. I hated it. BUT I love cherries so I kept at it. I found this at the end of cherry season but was able to use it a few times before the cherries ran out. It works really well. place the cherries on top in the four slots closest to the lip of the tray and simple press down in a quick and firm motion ( think hole punch, the kind that does a whole page), and presto! I can de-pit 4 cherries in a fifth of the time it takes me to do 1 by hand with a pairing knife. The only thing I DON'T like is that there are only 4 slots for cherries and the other four slots are for olives. They should make on specifically for olives and one specifically for cherries, that way you can do 8 at a time. I personally, don't really like olives and have never bought a single can of them, much less tried pitting them, so half of this tray is useless to me.This device is easy to clean, the cherry/olive tray lifts right up and a quick and easy rinse in hot water is all it needs. I also really like that you can locked it closed using the tab at the top, it makes is real easy to store.

Great when pitting large quantities of cherries
I just made a batch of cherry salsa and I couldn't have done it without this gadget. I was able to pit four cherries at a time and out of 2lbs of cherries only about 3 had pits hanging on to them. But those pits weren't inside the cherries and were easy to brush off. I'd say that's a pretty good ratio and as I said, there is no way I could have gone through 2lbs of cherries as quickly and easily without this thing.I also use it to pit olives when I buy fancy olives and other things. Honestly, now that I have it, I don't know how I functioned without it. It's easy to clean too as it all comes apart and it's easy to empty, too. It's a little awkward to store, but I love it so much after using it all summer that I'm willing to find a permanent spot for it in one of my drawers.

Not recommended for oilves
We purchased this item specifically to pit home grown olives. Even on the smaller setting the olives would just get mushed up and push through, pit still intact. Might be okay for LARGE cherry's.

USEFUL TOOL!
Has quadrupled my cherry-pitting speed, and misses very few pits. Also love the 2 sizes of cherries that it can pit, as we pit both large sweet cherries and small sour cherries. Very happy with my purchase.

Better than expected
When looking for a cherry pitter, I was skeptical about purchasing this "no name" brand. I'm sure we all have too many "no name" gadgets that don't really do the job well.I considered a certain well known brand cherry pitter, but it only pit one cherry at a time. With a toddler in the house, everything has to be done fast; hence I took the chance on this 4 cherries at once pitter.I was pleasantly surprised at how well it pit cherries. Yes, there is the occasional pit that hangs on, but the frequency is so low it doesn't bother me.It is easy enough to use - in fact my 2.5 year old toddler can now help me pit the cherries :-)Clean up is a breeze too - wash it in warm soapy water. The care card says it can go in the top rack of the dishwasher, but I have not needed to do this yetSo why didn't I give it 5 stars? Because the lock doesn't lock the pitter together. It only locks the flap to the lid. Therefore, the gadget flops open if I don't hold it correctly.

A must if you love cherries
Absolutely excellentWhat I do is do four at a time making sure the pits get pushed out to the bottom and then put the putted cherries ins bowl and then put the 4 pits in the compostThis way sm sure all pits are removedI did two huge bags of cherries in a fairly fast time. What takes some time is pulling the Chen’s off the cherries before placing in cherry pitterAnyways overall is a great machine and would definitely recommend

Works Great!
This did a great job of pitting 4 cherries at a time. When I was a child I remember using my mother's pitter, which many times didn't get out the pit, and I would end up hitting my fingers and it was very time intensive. This pitter works great, and I can't recommend it enough. I ended up doing 4 cups of cherries in less than 7 minutes!
